I think the most underated rock bands are some of your very own home town bands i mean have you listened to the shit that people can come up with. But for me i think Rage Against The Machine is underrated and defanatley deserve more exposure. Thats all i have to say on the subject (ST Pats Day represent Medicine Hat)

The Alice Cooper Band.
In those early days when Alice was just another one of the boys, doing Killer et al.
They were a great outfit who are forgotten about in the shadow of the Alice beast that arose from the ashes..

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Underrated...

Mongolian Dethkit never got a record deal, despite sounding like Captain Beefheart playing death metal (probably because of it actually). I liked them anyway.

Fudge Tunnel could've been the UK equivalent of Nirvana circa 'Bleach' - I can't remember who got there first with the music, but I suspect it was Fudge Tunnel. A lucky few still remember them. Most of the back catalogue is now sadly deleted. If anyone's got 'Hate songs in E-minor' please get in touch because my cassette is falling to pieces.

Ed Alleyne Johnson's early stuff is amazing. He's a busker who managed to get a live session on BBC Radio 2 playing violin and electronics. He performs in many local high streets in the UK. He's a bit of a genius. Just never got promoted for some reason.

Pavement
REM
Third Eye Blind
Blink 182 (think about any emo/ punk-pop band today)
Weezer Weezer Weezer Weezer Weezer (minus Beverly Hills)
Yea and whoever said Dinosaur Jr. was right, however, just because they came up with the sound first doesn't mean they were the best at it. I mean there songs were a little too muddy for even indie-people, and the pop hooks of Pixies/Nirvana were less forefront. Plus, wasn't Husker Du doing this before Dinosaur Jr.?
Oh and Husker Du.
There.

R.E.M. underrated????

I think they have been rated and written about enormously over the years, and their place in the canon is very safe for both the general public and the more discerning R.E.M. lover.....

I think you forgot about the underrated part... I don't see hw you can throw REM, Pavement, Blink-182, Third Eye Blind and Weezer out?! REM and Pavement are rated just right, I'd say the rest are overrated.

How can Ten Years After tour without Alvin Lee?

You coule either ask Pink Floyd, the Doors, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Journey, Queen, and many others, or just come to the logical answer.

Interesting...

Maybe you should develop that further?

Phil should really get back on drums.

Well you have to give credit to Genesis for getting into the studio and continuing to make music without Gabriel. I won't argue its any better, but it was more popular. Most other bands would have just toured and played the old stuff.

I love "Carpet Crawlers." Great tune.

I don't know if i said they were the best grunge band but they certainly deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Nivana & The Pixies.
J Masics (dinosaurs songwriter) was a genius, ahead of his time and had more talent in his little finger then most of the over hyped bands of today yet not too many people have heard of him...........

What about the New York Dolls? The Clash lists them as influence, and if you've influenced The Clash...

You can't listen to them and NOT love them.
