I am a big beatles fan-always have been. But, I still find it amazing what they accomplished in just a small amount of time. When you consider that their first real album "please please me" came out in 1962 until "abbey road" in 1969 that is only a span of 7 yrs. They were together about 4 or 5 yrs before they made it big and they offically broke up in 1970. But once they released their first album, they took off.
In only 7 years they created a body of work that has yet to be equaled in terms of musical genuis, cultural influence, musical influence, album design, talent, and just sheer mania. The sounds that they created were so far ahead of everybody else. Alot of credit needs to go to george martin. He was very clever and got the absolute most out of their compostions.
So many bands spend 10-15 even 20 years to build a catalouge of music...for example REM, U2, Stones, or the Who. All great bands, but they don't compare when it comes to the quality of work the beatles put out in such a short amount of time. Hell, most bands it takes 7 years before they even start getting world wide recognition.
The only reason I even bring this up is when everybody was naming their top 5 bands of all time. A large majority had the beatles on their list and this is 37 years since they recorded their last album. I dont know if another band will come along and do what the beatles did, especially in that kind of time frame. hell the beatles even invented music video's with their release of "paperback writer" and "rain" on a promotional tape.

Here , here and here.

When you're relatively new in the neighborhood, it's probably a good rule of thumb to check around and see if the topic has been brought up before, even when it's a band as obscure as The Beatles.

Now Playing: "Carhop" Michael Nesmith Rays <-- didn't The Beatles rip off a lot of his old band's style?
