Being a fairly big SP fan, I'd give this album a 6/10 after the first listen. I don't mind change, but there were very few memorable songs and nothing really blew me away as the older SP albums did. I'll give it another listen soon.

I think I would give it the same score. It's better than Machina though. God, I hate that album.

I'll take Machina over Zeitgeist any day of the week. Given, Machina is a pretty bad record in the Pumpkins catalog, but at least some of the tracks had memorable hooks. Most of them were mired in some very soupy production, but Zeitgeist has none whatsoever.

I think I may agree with you at this point. I've listened to Zeltgeist quite a bit more and I have to say it's horribly boring.

I barely managed to get through Zeitgeist once. It is utterly uninspired, lacking, for the most part, any redeeming qualities. It wants to pass itself off as aggressive, but I was unable to detect any genuine emotion, rage or otherwise.

The inspired, soaring, and sometimes beautiful melodies (found in all the best "heavy" Pumpkins songs) are nowhere to be found. Corgan's vocals (or at least the mixing/production of them) have lost every trace of ethereal beauty they once possessed. And is it just me, or are the vocal harmony overdubs ("Starz," anyone?) flat-out ridiculous sounding?

Oh, and the vaguely Japanese-sounding synth stabs in "For God and Country" sound like a pathetic rip-off of those found in The Cure's "The Walk." I really dislike this. 3/10
