I always liked blues-rock/rock guitarist Rory Gallagher. There was so much passion in his playing, he was amazing. Check out his live albums & turn the volume up loud.

Also definately need to mention Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton, master guitarists of many styles. Give them the attention they never recieved during their short lifespans- hunt down an anthology album and discover some great axe playing.

I'm a big fan of Hendrix and Clapton among others...

Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In) is amazing as well, but not in the same league as Hendrix and Clapton. I just really like his style, and his solo album is pretty interesting and innovative.

Richard Thompson. You might not be familiar with him. But he's the best. Nobody else comes close (Mark Knopfler tries, and fails).

I went with Stevie. =) He's been my favorite ever since I was five and listened to Pride and Joy for the first time. Oh, and it's "Vaughan", not "Vaughn" for future reference.

I really love SRV but Hendrix is where it's at. I'm glad Stevie Ray gets enough respect to be on the short list.

Jimmy Page should be included. And if someone like Angus Young is in, I don't see how you can leave out Jack White.

My 2 favourite guitarists are Marc Ribot and Blixa Bargeld, but neither of them play 'Rock' music, so I don't know what I'm doing putting them here. Roll Eyes
Just saw the thread I suppose. Why isn't my hangover gone away yet? It seems to be getting worse...

My favorite guitarist of all time is Jimmy Paige, he's the best ever, imo. But from the list above, I'd choose Hendrix. Nobody used a guitar the way he did, nobody expressed themselves with a guitar the way he did.

Take it from a loyal Dead fan. Jerry Garcia isn't top 50.

Jimi's probably my fave. There's some pretty sweet stuff about him at EMP in Seattle.

Does Tom Morello really belong on that poll?
He's good, but not that good. I saw him live w/ Audioslave at Lollapalooza, one of the very few concerts I've been to.

My favorites would have to be Jimmy Page and Keith Richards. No love for Keef!?!? I mean regardless how you feel about the Stones, Keef has to be recognized as one of the best rock guitarists. Honorable mention goes to Robbie Robertson (if you doubt this watch The Last Waltz and how he outplays Clapton)

I've always liked Joe Walsh and Don Felder Smiler

If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal.

I always liked Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd from Television. Besides that I would do the lead singer from Sigur Ros "Jonsi" who plays guitar with a cello bow... Now, that is awesome!
