No, Freddy Mercury has not been resurrected. In the grand mortgage-paying tradition of The Doors and Journey, the surviving members of Queen have hired Paul Rodgers of Bad Company to front the band for a 2005 world tour. No news yet if Rodgers has grown a really butch mustache or if they’ll perform anything from the “Flash Gordon” soundtrack. On the plus side, Megatron can now rest assure Rodgers will be too busy to reform Bad Company.
On the one hand I have to think that there is a great desire to continue working, but that's hardly a good reason to essentially tour as a cover band. When you consider that Paul Rogers has a history of reinventing himself (Free --> Bad Company --> The Firm, etc.), this feels less like taking an opportunity to strike out in a new artistic direction and more an opportunity to cash in.

unfort i dont think theres any encouragement for older veterans to play with younger groups, i think the exception is velvet revolver, scott cannot be as near as old as slash and duff but from the two singles it sounds like they have reinvigorated the original appetite for destruction template without dating themselves
as far shady rock reunion tours i think its a part of the business that will never ever go away since theres too much money involved
but honestly if youre gonna go under the pretense of touring without a new album and or reuniting and youre lead singer is nowhere to be found itshould not be done but they obviously dont mind doing something that disrespects the legacy of even a band that doesnt have a lot of credability in the first place i.e chicago or styx

That's an interesting point. Paul Rodgers is a contemporary of all of the members of Queen, but I can't think of a great number of instances where rock musicians cross generational lines. Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose is an example from this year, but other than that I'm drawing a blank.

moz produced nancy sinatra's new cd, and does anyone know if jack and loretta are a couple?
i know this is a very strange question since shes probably older than his mother, but there seems to be some sort of chemistry between the two in there videos than just mutual respect and loretta is amazingly beautifull she looks better now i think than at her peak

I'd forgotten about the Nancy Sinatra album. Now that the year's winding down, I should check that out.
Perhaps the "Portland, Oregon" video is a carefully calculated move on Jack's part to start a new round of "are they? aren't they?" talk.
Megatron is going to be so peeved to return and find we've turned this thread into a gossip column.

honestly jack white doesnt seem like a person who calculates everything to get some kind of media action, maybe youre refering to the whole controversy of wither jack and meg were brother and sister thing, to me it seemed like he was just blowing b.s up the medias arse cause he got sick of being asked the same questions... who knows i could be way off on this one hes a very odd person( most genuises are) but i think he has great taste in women i always found meg bewitching. anyways i like megatron he makes me laugh

It seems that in recent years something has changed to make bands like Queen think it is ok to comeback without their lead singer or another member who has died.
The sad part behind is that you know they are going to sell out their shows, and make massive amounts of money doing this.
If people would exercise their better judgement and not go see a new watered down version of the old band they loved.... then bands like this wouldn't be so encouraged to reunite and tour.

I thought it was going to be a one off thing with Paul Rodgers... I love Queen and I love Paul but I am not too convinced about them working together. Did you get to see any shows? They were far too expensive for my budget...

I would have been more into the rumors of Robbie Williams fronting Queen. He doesn't have a great voice (but who could really replace Freddie?) but he's got the attitude and stage presence...

I heard that rumour too... I think Robbie would have suited Queen better... but I can not really say cos I still have not hear Queen with Paul Rodgers. People seem to be pleased and it has good reviews. I hear that Neil Murray maybe was going to play bass???

I did see Queen at the Long Beach Auditorium in the '70s, and they put on a good show, but I certainly have no intention of seeing them in their reincarnated form. On the other hand, the Undertones are coming to my local club next month with the same singer from their 2003 album, and I'm definitely seeing them, up close and personal. It'll be the 25th anniversary of when I saw them twice at the Whiskey!
