No mention of the Buffalo Springfield? Extremely underated, in the hall of fame, three of their members went on to write and record number one songs. But popularity isn't everything, they are all still alive, but have never reunited, they played the Monteray Pop festival along with the Who, Hendrix, Canned Heat. Country, folk, psychadelia = Buffalo Springfield way better than the Eagles or the Byrds.

Canned Heat is another 60's band I could champion, they played Woodstock in fact their song plays over the opening of the movie forever linking them in time. Their guitarist was big influence on the likes of ZZ Top.

No one has mentioned ZZ Top or the Replacements there is always some crazy Replacements fan...

Um dk if they were mentioned but the Velvet Underground. I mean if you're gonna talk about it in terms of originality, inspiration, and just sheer rockness I mean duh.

Would you prefer they be classified as Jazz? Country? Hip-Hop perhaps? How about Electronica?

I hope that's a joke. BNL aren't even a rock band, they're more AOR or something.

This is a weird list, I'm not sure I can justify putting Spoon instead of the Rolling Stones, although I enjoy listening to Spoon more.

This is a weird thread. I'll do a top 5 classic rock and current rock:

Beatles
Beach Boys
Led Zeppelin
Rolling Stones
Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Current
Wilco
Spoon
The Hold Steady
My Morning Jacket
The Shins
