A more accurate question might just be "Does anybody here not like the Beatles?" I'm sure there are at least a few.

I feel really out of place criticising the Beatles because I can appreciate their key place in the social history of the Western world, and I used to listen to them all the time as a teenager; but I cant say Im really a fan now that I have developed my own musical tastes. Their old stuff is soooo poppy, and their later music is just as poppy yet its combined with what appears really pretentious hippy values.

Though dont worry, I DO hate Yoko Ono as much as any avid Beatles fan.

I would consider myself a non-fan of the Beatles, but I will admit to liking Helter Skelter and Tomorrow Never Knows. Helter Skelter actually rocks (and it sounded great as a backing for Jay-Z's 99 Problems). Tomorrow Never Knows sounds like Manitoba.

Personally, I love the Beatles. Especially, Revolver, Rubber Soul, and The Magical Mystery Tour. I can't take too much of their early albums, but I enjoy the early pop songs when put onto a mix tape or disc. Hating Yoko Ono only reveals that you are a selfish individual.

yeah, about 5 years ago i was a complete addict, now i've cooled off a bit but i think they're excellent. Rubber Soul is my fav, but anything after rubber soul and including a hard day's night is fantastic!

Is this some kind of a trick question? Now there are several posters whom I dearly respect but I don't respect them as much as The Beatles. From creation to destruction, there has never been, and I dare say, will never be, anything to compare to The Beatles. True, I grew up with them, and know of where I speak, but so did several others. Please, don't feel any need to change your minds, but at least before you respond again, please check out "Help!", "Rubber Soul", "Revolver", Sgt. Pepper", "Magical Mystery Tour", "The Beatles", "Abbey Road", and "Let it Be". If you live in U.S.A., check out "Hey, Jude." Anyone who has actually listened to The Beatles and thinks that somebody else is better is in danger of screwing up all their friends, as well as themselves. Anyway, later gator and after while, crocodile.

YES! They are great. Abbey Road is my favorite album. I'll admit to loving John Lennon's solo stuff, and Paul McCartney's WINGS, too.

yes, yes, yes, they were extremely influential, but does that mean you have to like them? NO! I like many things more than them and I appreciate that they made me able to hear it, but I just don't like them.

I'm with you, Minty. I don't enjoy that noisy rock and/or roll music kids listen to these days. I'll stick with my Pat Boone and Perry Como albums. Now THAT'S good listenin'!

I like the beatles, but they don't stand the test of time quite as much as early Stones, early Who, and early Zeppelin. Even their contemporary - Elvis - still stands up better.

I think the weirdness of John Lennon & Yoko tarnishes their legacy a bit for me.

I love The Beatles. Most of my younger friends think that they're old and bad, which I don't understand, but they are kids. I do have one friend who probably loves them as much as I do, but her favorite band would have to be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The Beatles are a truely awesome and unique band. My father has all of their albums on vinyl, and I listen to them often.

For me the beatles are a story equal to the story of creation itself. It shocks me that there are people out there who still don't want to have Been beatles. Its love and magic embodied, a modern day fountain of youth... Whenever i listen to their bbc sessions or earlier recordings, their love and energy kills me with joy. like a little school girl, i gush over their story, am in awe at what they did.

Like it or not, all modern music comes through the Beatles. It's more than just the music. They opened the door to the flood of creativity that came in thier wake. They did the whole thing without a map, true pioneers who took the chances, and made the mistakes so that anyone else could travel the same road if they chose, or create a road of thier own. The whole industry is based on the sucsess the Beatles managed to create, and they, along with Elvis, showed that fame and fortune are in reach of anyone, no matter how lowly born they might be. They turned the notion of the status quo on its head. Until then heros were fighting men or adventurers, politicians or law enforcers. The Beatles gave a different notion of who could be famous and popular.

My first album purchase as a 12 y-o was Sgt. Pepper in 1967 but I've blown hot and cold on them over the years.

However, what made me re-re-evaluate them and become a fan again was Greil Marcus's essay on the Beatles in The Rolling Stone Illustrated History of Rock'n'Roll (1979), for mine the definitive essay on the group. I recommend it to you.

hell yes, they are one of my fave bands, john lennon is especially good, and you can't go past paul McCartney,. But i tend to think that lennon was the dominent vocalist with paul tagging behind... When it comes to influence the beatles are the top of the game, in their time bands would mainly only play the easy-to-do pop tunes, but the beatles revolutionised this by attempting the 'harder' guitar sounds and winning! does anyone agree?

How much of their catalog have you actually listened to, considering you can't even spell their name?
