It just boggles my mind how audioslave sound exactly like they're supposed to (RATM + Chirs Cornell). I mean, if you got a RATM record, took out Zach de la Rocha's vocals out, and got Chris Cornell to sing over it.. that's exactly what audioslave sounds like. Admittedly, I've never bothered to check out an audioslave record, but everytime I hear their song on the radio I just feel overwhelmed by how they much they sound like that.

This is pretty apparent, tbh. While it may have been true that some of the songs on their maiden album borrowed heavily from ratm (Cochise, Gasoline, Set it Off), there were also songs that parted dramatically from that sound and did a damn good job of it (Shadow of the Sun, I am the Highway). By the time they put out "Out of Exile," they had effectively found a unique sound and identity. Unfortunately, to date they have put out very few songs that could compete with anything Soundgarden had to offer. I love Audioslave, but so far only Show Me How to Live floored me like Flower, or Fresh Tendrils, or No Attention. I'll keep buying albums and I'll keep waiting and hoping to have that happen again.

They were chosen as radio singles for that very reason. There are gems on all their albums that weren't released as singles.

Soundgarden without question. Audioslave is good and all, but never ever came close to living up to their potential.

Rumor has it that the ex-Ragers will be trying Gary Cherone out as the new lead singer. Some of us are on the edge of our seats with blistering anticipation!
