I just can't get enough of some of their pop gems... I feel too many kids of my gen. know all about the beatles, beach boys, and other 60's pop groups, but the Small Faces don't get much love.
Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Here Comes the Nice, Itchycoo Park, and so many more that aren't coming to me off the top of my head.
I guess this is more of a statement than a good thread topic, so take this in any direction you guys would like!
You're right about that. I don't even know if they got a lot of love in their heyday, actually. I used to own a compilation plus Ogden's... (in its original LP form, it had some of the most innovative album packaging ever). It's hard to imagine "Parklife" without "Lazy Sunday".
I always enjoyed Steve Marriot's vocals, too (Another addition to the died-before-their-time topic).

Afterglow (Of Your Love) is one of my favorites. It starts so, I dunno, I guess British, then goes into full on arena rock mode. I would think before arena rock was around, but I could be wrong. Anywho, good songs all around!

This old fart has just finished his warm milk and feels compelled to weigh in. Small Faces were part of my initial immersion into British rock circa early '60s. There Are But Four, Ogden's Nut Gone Flake and The Autumn Stone are essential British pop records, not to mention all of their early singles. I will even contradict conventional wisdom and say I love the first four Humble Pie albums as well. For some reason, whenever I consider the Small Faces I also fondly remember Austrailia's Easybeats and wind up pulling out their records as well, soon to be followed by Masters Apprentice and who knows what. Before I know it my entire day becomes one long listen-fest with a strong likelihood that the early Move and other such will make their way down from the shelves.
DAMN!!! Another do-nothing day where nothing gets done.

In the late 90s, I went through quite an obsession with the British Invasion. I was quite surprised to find out just how many great bands I had missed out on, simply because they didn't cause much of a splash initially in the States. The Small Faces are at the top of a list (that includes such heavy weights as the Pretty Things and the Move) of bands that should have been bigger over here. Also not to be missed, The Faces, which is what the nucleus of the Small Faces along with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood became when Steve Marriott when on to form Humble Pie.

Pretty much anything they did before Rod Stewart got seriously involved is great. After that, it's pretty spotty. That was when they switched from high test hallucinogens to whiskey.

Of the four Faces albums, I think First Step (which I think was initially released as a Small Faces album) is the most uneven, though it has two fantastic highlights (a great cover of Dylan's "Wicked Messenger" and "Flying"), and the rest is pretty nice, if unspectacular.
A Nod Is As Good As Wink . . . is one of my favorite records and there is hardly a wasted note on it.
Long Player is almost as good, but I have to be in the mood for it. I could have done without the nine minute version of "I Feel So Good", but the cover of "Maybe I'm Amazed" is not to be missed.
I've always liked Ooh La La though it sort of feels like a leftovers record. Of course it's worth the price of admission for the title track alone.
If you're worried about hit to miss ratio, check out this compilation. I don't normally recommend 'best ofs' over albums, but this is an essential purchase if you just want one Faces' document.
