I know a lot of people that like them.. I mean I hate them personally, but some of my friends listen to them, and they're fairly well known.

They are well known in Europe. They are from Germany and they play some kind of industrial metal. I've seen their performance in Poland.

They played a song called "Feuer frei!" at the beginning of the movie XXX, if anyone's seen that.

I went to Munich and Frankfurt last summer and didn't see copies of their cds at many stores, so I figure they're either not very popular over there or so popular that their cds sell out right away.

I'm not a fan of really heavy metal, but my friend also has some Rammstein and some songs are pretty fun to listen to, like "Du Hast," "Sonne," and "Links 2 3 4." But of course, they are fun to me because they are catchy hard rockers and, especially, because I have no idea what they are saying!!

They got pretty popular in America for a while about sex years ago, when "Du Hast" became an MTV and radio hit for them. It seems to have been a kind of quasi-novelty hit, even though all their songs are of a similar nature. I liked them at the time, by my tastes have changed since then.

@LordSmoogsbottomIII:
In fact they're really famous in germany...

Personaly I'm very much into their album "Mutter". There is a track called "Mein Herz brennt" (means: My heart is burning), it's probably the best song they ever made, you should listen to it, it's very orchestral and raw. Concerning the lyrics, I have to say, that even for germans the lyrics mostly doesn't make any sense... I try to translate...

"Dear children look out, I'm the voice from the pillow, I brought something along, I ripped it out of my chest, with this heart I got the power, to extort the eyelids, I'm singing till the day awakes, a glaring light at the firmament.... my heart is burning"

Oh... but the song "Mutter" is about genetic engeneering...
ah, what a heck, they really kick ass... listen to "Ich will", "Morgenstern" or "Sonne"

That's what I assumed, but I haven't been to Berlin where they're the most popular.

I found this sweet CD/DVD in Vienna with some of their videos and concert footage, but alas it was European so it wouldn't work on American DVD players.

I'd say my 5 all-time favorite songs from them are Sonne, Mein Herz Brennt, Klavier, Alter Mann, and Seemann

Seemann is great. There are two other versions of this song. One is by Apocalyptica, sung by Nina Hagen a very famous and probably the most insane singer in germany, but she has a very interessting voice. The other version is by Janus, which I mentioned already in the threat about the saddest music at all. Both versions are awesome.

rosenrot was quite a good album
their live show are completly mental apparently. the keyboardist crowdsurfs in a rubber dingy before being chased around the stage by the singer and put in a pot and cooked. (kind of)
