I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but Gilmour's solo efforts throughout the years of left me wanting more. Well he has a new one out. Anyone heard it yet? I'll pick it up on Saturday.

I'm with you on this one. His previous two albums were awful, much to my disappointment. The only thing is that, much like the oft-beaten housewife, I will always come back for more. I didn't realize he had a new release out until I saw it advertised on VH1 last night. I plan to pick it up tomorrow and will offer my input at that time. Long live the Floyd!

I thought I'd put closure on this post by stating that On an Island is the worst album I've bought this year. Damn, I'm still cringing. Maybe Pink Floyd should stay retired after all.

I still have yet to purchase this album and I haven't heard anything good about it yet. I guess I should have expected it. The fact remains, Roger Waters was Pink Floyd!!!

I can't believe that Sony signed the new Gilmour cd! it's a shame, he probably paid for this!
It could have been relased on an indy label(Nonesuch Records for example, like Brian Wilson). The songs are so boring to me... it's really solo Gilmour material: flat & dull.

Yes, Waters was Pink Floyd, and Gilmour had is place in that great band. But no doubts, Waters was the writer, the creator of the concept...
(By listening to solo Waters albums, we know who's the skilled hand). So, When the guy Gilmour goes solo, forget it...

What are yall talking about? I think it's awesome. Gilmour's guitar and vocals sound better than ever. I give him props for still rocking out at the ripe ole age of 60

His voice does sound fine. I'm talking about the songs, they suck, IMO. Glad to hear you like it though. I really wanted to.

I agree that the album as a whole is no new Meddle, but it definitely has its moments.
I do not agree that Pink Floyd was Roger Waters though.
The SOUND of Pink Floyd was clearly the work of David Gilmour in my opinion.

I'd say that the sound of Floyd was all of them and that was what made them great. Still, Waters was the X-factor and my favorite album, The Final Cut, showcased that. I'd also take The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking and Radio Waves over Gilmour's solo works and rate them closely if not better than the two post-Waters studio releases.

Wow.
your favourite floyd album is the final cut?
This is really the first time I heard that.
Well then it makes sense, as TFC is generally considered as the first RW solo album.
Anyway, my favourites are Meddle, Atom Heart mother and Wish you were here.
