ok this is a VERY GOOD TOPIC TO TOUCH ON, im in love with both of these bands, and would give up a left nut for my band to share the stage with either bullet or trivium, (never gonna happen btw), but to compare either of these guys is like comparing ebony to ivory,

I personally like trivium a bit longer cuz i was introduced to them earlier and they've grown on me more but here's sumthin to think about, imagine if they did a tour together?????

Personally, I think Bullet For My Valentine are a horrible band. They offer nothing interesting or original whatsoever in my opinion and lyrically at least are a metalcore combination of Slipknot and a shitload of emo bands. I do NOT consider this to be a good thing. The metalcore scene has become so unbelievably generic with so many similar bands breaking through and Bullet are a great example of this.

As for Trivium, I think they're talented players, but they also fall into that damned metalcore trap. Their music can occasionally be enjoyable, but it's usually ruined by Heafy's screaming. I cannot understand why they have been labelled as thrash metal by several music magazines. Their new album sounds like it could be a massive leap forward though, judging by the new song Detonation. I can certainly see why that song could be labelled thrash. Only time will tell whether the rest of the album is as good.

on the bullet thing, i dont judge, and in some ways i agree, but they do have catchy hooks here and there, and they are quite talented aswell (listen to the guitar solo for "her voice resides") but i guess its a matter of opinion for them

as for trivium... ascendancy, and hell, even ember to inferno were metalcore ill admit, but if its the screaming that labels that band "metalcore", then "the crusade" will definetly shed that away for Matt Heafy said that he barely screams anymore, and his voice on detonation is his regular style now

oh and PS i heard another new song of theirs called Anthem (we are the fire) and it reminds me of the legendary Dio

of the two i prefer trivium. bullet are hyped up way to much over here cos they're british. i think they are a bit overrated as they have only had one album out.

Perhaps over rated... But with good cause. They write songs that people like and at the end of the day, people do listen to them.

Lets just say I plan to truly reserve judgement until i hear album number 2, in the mean time, ill enjoy both of these fine bands.

I'll probably cause a stink here, but I don' t like either band. They sound too 'manufactured'. No real aggression. Metal in general seems to be going that way. There's not much recent metal that truly goes for the throat.

Mastodon were good and Dillinger Escape Plan and Meshuggah showed promise - That's all pretty old now though. Are there any other bands I should be aware of?

by the way guys sorry but both Trivium and BFMV are metal bands lol.. still Trivium do own BFMV, i bought the poison from bullet and thought it was pretty crap to be honest lol. no offense to people who like them but they really dont have any great, memorable songs. Trivium sound a lot better than Bullet.
And for the point about the aggression, yeah i agree theyr not great for it, try listening to Slipknot, a lot of aggression there SmilerSmilerSmiler \M/

also Bullet have 2 albums, well 1 EP and 1 Album. The EP "Bullet For My Vallentine" has possibly their best song, Hand of Blood but still i go with Trivium
