I've actually been pretty partial to Desire though. It is probably the dylan album I turn to most. My other personal favorite is the basement tapes. I love that album also. One of these days I'll plop down the $100 and buy the complete basement tape sessions.
As a side note, although it is far, far from a favorite, I've always found Dylan's live at Buddokahn album really fun. Anyone else like that one?
I think it's a tough choice between "Bringing it All Back Home" and "Highway 61 Revisited", but in the end I choose "Bringing it All Back Home". That's been one of my favorite albums for a long time. It's just got so many great songs on it -- "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "Maggie's Farm", "She Belongs to Me", "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" -- not to mention the funniest Dylan song ever, "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream".

I went with Blood On The Tracks. As an album, it's my favourite, even though I like many tracks on the other albums.

I think of those 5 I'd go for Blood on the Tracks, but it's a tough call. I don't really know what my favourite is overall. Aside from the ones on the list, Desire, Time out of Mind, The Basement Tapes are incredible. We could be here all day. And why not I suppose...

No alternate versions of it got recorded at those sessions. And evidently, Dylan never played this song live until 1988(!), and I don't think a live version was ever released.

For me, it's Blood on the Tracks. Not only my favorite Dylan album but my favorite album of all albums. Only album I re-listen to in it's entirety without skipping over songs. I also love Mary Lee's Corvette's track by track cover of this album, Blood on the Tracks: Recorded Live at Arlene Grocery.

I like them all, they all have something to offer. They are all very good albums. Highway 61 revsisted is always a fav tho, but then again so is blonde on blonde and teh freewhelin Bob Dylan. So hard to choose.
I went with Blonde on Blonde. Simply stunning. However, I am surprised no one has mentioned Love and Theft!! I looove that album. Its funny, poignant, and so musically varied that I think it deserves at least a mention. What does anyone else think?

"Love and Theft" is a great album, but I still don't think it compares to Dylan's output in the 60's through the mid-70's. Any of the five albums here easily surpasses it.

Bringing It All Back Home just edges out Highway 61 Revisited for me. I basically agree with ericg's thoughts, it's got a lot of variety and my two favorite Dylan songs (It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), Subterranean Homesick Blues). But I haven't spent a whole lot of time listening to Blood on the Tracks or Blonde on Blonde, so that could change once I give them a few more listens.
I think Love and Theft gets insufficient mention among Greatest Albums of the Last 5/10 Years. "Mississippi" or "Summer Nights" or "Lonesome Day Blues" or "Honest With Me" are easily on par with 60's songs like "Tombstone Blues" and "Most Likely You Go Your Way...".

Love and Theft I think is every bit as good as his 60s output. Definitely one of my favorite Dylans.
I think perhaps my favorite of his though is Another Side. I know it gets a lot of criticism for being sloppy and not as focused, but I just identify with it more than anything else of his. He's clearly having a lot of fun on the record, but it's not slight; there's some great compositions on there.

I'd be more forgiving of that one if it didn't have "Ballad in Plain D". My favorite is Blood on the Tracks, though I have nothing bad to say about any of the other ones in the poll.

Voted for Highway 61. I love Bringing it all back Home almost equally. The perfect Dylan to me are these two albums right when he went electric. It wasn't on the poll but John Wesley Harding is fantastic as well.
