We hear many new interesting rap/hip-hop music (subtle, madlib, quasimoto, T.I., ghostface killah, themselves etc.), new pop (shins-like...) and post-rock (explosions in the sky, sigur ros, do make say think, red sparowes, pelican, etc.) and new artists comes from nowhere with different music styles... but where is the fucking rock!!?? many rock bands used to be great but are now pretty deceiving or bad (REM, Oasis (the bad one), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Audioslave, The Strokes, etc.) and now indie rock = indie pop, so what are the great rock bands today? The only two real great rock bands of the moment that comes to mind are Wilco and The White Stripes. They have the rock n' roll spirit and it's undeniable. Can you suggest maybe some indie "unknown" rock artists that we should know about? I'm not sure but...I think that Bloc Party is not gonna save rock n' roll...
Agreed with the Hold Steady. Also, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, The Thermals, and Muse have put out great rock albums in the last year.
edit: Well, Ted Leo WILL... in about 3 weeks or so.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I hear new music mainly on the radio, and I have to say that outside of the 'classic rock' stations rock music isn't really played anymore. 'Modern Rock' stations play punk-tinged pop, which is listenable but not real rock in my book. I'll second the Wolfmother vote, though, that album does rock.
I definitely agree with The Thermals. One of my favorite albums of the past year.
I'll third The Thermals recommendation. If you're looking for an album to rock your face off, this is the one. It's got a gritty sound, immediate hooks, and a singer with massive enthusiasm.

I dislike Wolfmother with a passion. I would say that rock as it once existed is gone, but that doesn't mean it is missing completely. Most of today's mainstream rock is horrid, but there are still some artists that make the name proud in the alternative, punk, and indie sects.
Muse Beck The Hold Steady Queens of the Stone Age The White Stripes My Morning Jacket Ben Folds Radiohead Wilco Etc, as you can see, rock still exists, just new versions of it.

Exaclty what I was thinking.
Sorry if this sounds grumpy but maybe bands realised that there is more to music than posers in stupid costumes and lead singers with oversized egos.
When people refer "classic rock" as real rock then I think that is more of scene or a movemement. If you want bands to carry that flag then they are just going to sound like tribute bands i.e Wolfmother.
In reference to your specific post
The yeah yeah yeahs Tv on the radio The strokes Bloc party (silent shout at least) Wolf parade
all sound like great rock to me, but probably fall under then indie rock or "new pop" to other people.
and "I might be wrong", "2+2=5" , "there there" all sound like ideal rock songs to me, funny old world isnt it.
The head of state has called for me, but I don't have time for him

Bloc Party, Muse and Wolfmother aren't really my cup of tea. Radiohead is more a electronic rock band since Kid A. I'll begin to look for The Thermals.
But you all see it, it's hard to find simply great rock bands.
Of course there is!! And I don't understand why everyone is calling indie as rock? The Beatles were POP you know? The Who were pratically pop too? Most of the bands people call classic rock, are pop. But anwyays... In answer to yoru question, tehre are still indie ROCK bands out there:
Egg tweedy maybe you could be more specific when you say "simply great"?
You know, not being afraid of using electric guitars... Not the indie little high notes, but a great "wwwaaaaaaannnnnngg". And to be able to make great energic songs and ballads. Anything that comes from the heart, you know. Because most of the excellent records are the ones where the members (at least the lead singer) has a urge to expulse emotions in music. Something that sounds good is not enough for me because if there is no "metaphysical process" in the recording of a song, How can that song reach me "inside"? If you don't understand what I mean by "metaphysical", just read Emmanuel Kant books! (you'll fall asleep after two minutes )
While their last album doesn't hold up that well for me, the Queens of the Stone Age previous release, Songs for the Deaf, is one of the greatest rock albums of all time, in my opinion.

This didn't really register when I first read it, but it's a good point PF. It's not like Aerosmith and Black Sabbath really have that much in common, but both are catagorized as "classic rock".
egg, I'd also suggest that you check out Built to Spill if you're not familiar with them. They released an album last year, You In Reverse, that was pretty good rock. You also might try Perfect From Now On.

Obviously bands such as the View etc are essentailly POP bands, but the above bands are much rockier
Oh yeah and teh Paddingtons are good too..
The Strokes... really?! are you serious?! The Strokes don't go anywhere rockier than the Beatles or the Who. They just ape some harder edged bands like the Stooges, Modern Lovers (debut of course), V.U., what have you. But they have a heart of pop.
I'm not sure there is a good, defensible line to be drawn between rock and pop. Their destinies are intertwined.
There's not much on The Information that I would consider rock. Most isn't even close, really.
Nausea
... Which concludes the "classic" rock elements of the album. Honestly, "Cellphone's Dead"? "1000BPM"? "Soldier Jane"? I'm sure you see my point.
While I may enjoy the artist immensely, if you really think Beck is one of the last hopes of modern rock and roll, I'd have to strongly, strongly disagree with you.
On an unrelated note, I'll second Songs For The Deaf. I'm hoping this year's release will be better than Lullabies.
