I was a die-hard GNR fan, and still am a fan of the originals but i'v heard a lot of stuff from a friend of mine stating that buckethead is better than slash, and i completely disagree i think slash would whoop buckethead everyday of his life

Regardless of who's a better guitarist, I just can't respect a guy who wears a KFC bucket for a hat. Also, Slash has a cooler nickname.

Well..In my opinion, buckethead is the better guitarist..Yeah, he may be a bit strange, but I guess its how he wants to be unique(yes i know..wierd)..But who cares, He is a damn good musician, and anyone with eyes can see that..Its hard to come across musicians on the level of bucketheads creativity, Trey Anastasio could be presented as one with such creativity and talent as bucket...but thats beside the point...

Dont get me wrong..Slash is a damn good guitarist, he is prolly more fun for people to watch at times, while bucket just kind of sits there and rips it...But honestly, I have to say technically Bucket has more talent then slash.

If you really want to know who the better guitarist is, watch This and This .I think that's enough proof, Buckethead wins.

Buckethead is pretty crazy, but he's a great guitarist. He has unusually long fingers which I guess help a lot. I'd say he has more talent than Slash, but Slash has had greater musical accomplishments and is much more widely recognized.

He's not like the phantom of the opera or anything, it's just his stage identity. Pretty weird though, I agree, and no one will ever remember him as much as they remember Slash.

Regardless of irrelevant details like 'who parties better' I'm just going to use my ears.

It's true that Slash has a lot of style - an accomplished player. Very good stuff indeed.

But I have to say Buckethead is quite simply a BETTER GUITARIST. He's more versatile, has better dexterity and more theory knowledge.

If I was a record producer/studio maverick and there were only 2 session guitarists available, Buckethead would win over Slash every time. He has more versatility, better theory knowledge and incredible dexterity.

Slash can put down a trademark classic 'sound' - it's a very good sound but there's only so much you can do with it. Buckethead likes a challenge - to perform the impossible. There's a wealth of possibilities in what he's capable of.

Weird fact: Buckethead has unusually long fingers, as in extremely long fingers, which might give him the upper hand in dexterity.

Music-wise, I'd say Buckethead is one of the most original guitarists I've ever heard (check out his solo stuff), while Slash is a little closer to the standard rock gutarist. Don't get me wrong, Slash is still an incredible musician.

buckethead has a really really wierd stage presents i admit, with his whole nunchuck thing and the crazy mask, not to metion a kfc bucket... and he doesnt really move around unless he is changing guitars. but when basicly every rif has been played before here he comes with the most origional meterial since the beatles. hes a musical genious so of course hes weird.

There is no doubt that Buckethead - Jesus...I can't believe I'm getting ready to make a legitimate compare/contrast statement about someone who goes by the moniker Buckethead. Anyway, Buckethead is clearly the more technically proficient guitarist. However, I don't think it can be legitimately refuted that Slash is the greater guitarist, considering that he's written some of the greatest riffs and most memorable solos of all time.

You know what I love about Metacritic?

The fact that there's enough people to keep a thread comparing Slash to Buckethead alive.

I'll go with the only point of comparison I have: Guitar Hero 2

"Sweet Child Of Mine" is one of the easiest songs in the game on 'Expert' mode.

"Jordan" is the toughest. Hands down. It's impossible. And no, wearing a bucket on my head did not improve my chances of beating that song.

I tried guitar hero once.

It's nothing like playing a real guitar. In fact, if you're a guitarist it's a handicap. Guitars don't have push-buttons.

All my friends were laughing at me. I have a reputation as being quite a fine guitarist, but I was a dead loss on guitar hero.

The only one I managed to beat was John the Fisherman by Primus on easy mode.

Wearing a bucket on your head may not improve your chances of winning, but it may save your dignity.

You don't have to convince me of that one. I listened to some of the stuff on your myspace page.

I've heard before that guitarists struggle with guitar hero. I think I saw a video floating around of Eddie Van Halen stumbling through "You Really Got Me".

I love both "Guitar Hero" games and I have also heard the same argument that natural guitarists have a hard time playing it. I don't know how to play guitar but I still have trouble with it, some of the songs on "Expert" mode in the second game are just brutal.

As for Buckethead's song on "Guitar Hero II," it is technically more difficult but "Sweet Child O' Mine" is simply a better song. It has a nice melodic structure, the solo fits nicely within the song and the guitar part adds to the song, as opposed to being the song on "Jordan." I would take Slash over Buckethead.

I'm with Duncan. I've played guitar for 16 years and I've pretty much sucked balls at Guitar Hero the few times I've tried it. By the way Duncan, I checked out your myspace after MajorNougat mentioned it, and you're amazing.

Cheers, glad you liked it. It's quite flattering to recieve praise on this board.

I'm recording new stuff this year, so I'll probably post it up on the 'music of metacritic members' thread.

I got compared to Buckethead a few times, but I'd never heard him. I finally got hold of some of his music a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

If anyone wants to hear my music the link is -

Mucho thanks to MajorNougat and Briznow.
