Besides a lot of the one's already mentioned here's mine.

"Purple Haze" - Jimmi Hendrix
"You Really Got Me" - The Kinks
"Lemurs, Man, Lemurs" - Minus the Bear

(ps when I read the topic line, I immediately thought of "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes.)

In terms of something instantly recognisable, I could not go past Back in Black or Smoke on the Water....

"Backstreets" - Bruce Springsteen

The whole song is awesome, but that first minute of piano work is incredible.

No-one's mentioned 'Smells like teen spirit'!!! How did this happen?!

Whoever said Beastie Boys 'Sabotage' was right on the money.

See also -

Rage against the machine - 'Killing in the name of'
Blur - 'Song 2'
Pantera - 'F**king hostile'
Senser - 'Age of Panic'
White Zombie - 'More human than human'
Guns n Roses - Welcome to the jungle'
Fugazi - 'Waiting Room'

Most of these are metal, but I'm going on stuff that makes you want to smash things in the first 10 seconds. When I've calmed down I'll think of some more subtle 'tunes'.

The Hives - A little more for little you
RATM - Freedom

"Swwet Child of Mine" features a spellbinding intro. Still, I think I'd have to go with the Beatles' "Day Tripper." What an infectious guitar riff!

I don't know why it's the first thing that came to mind but both "Halo" and "A Pain that I'm used to" by Depeche Mode, are awesome.

well it appears there are a shit ton of songs, as already mentioned. the song that first came to mind:

"Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum

...probably need to extend to more than the first ten seconds, but ya, tis a fairly memorable start.
