It's hosted by Not Lame, a power pop specialty label out of Fort Collins, Colorado. My list is on there, as are lists from Not Lame owner Bruce Brodeen and power pop critic David Bash, along with other Not Lamers. Power pop heavy, but some nice stuff on there...

I see some wag put Blueberry Boat at #1 on his list.

I inadvertantly posted this in a new thread without realizing (thanks to the apparently not-so-sweet Sweetie for pointing it out):

Familiar with most of your picks on the Not Lame list, did a quick site search here for the ones I hadn't heard of before.

Didn't find any comments from you about "The Stands", though.

Can you give a quick capsule review?

Here's what I posted under the "Looking into 2005" thread about the Stands:

"One of my favorite records of 2004 (my number 8) was an import: All Years Leaving by The Stands. A Liverpool band, with the indeliable UK seal of approval (Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller approved), they toe the line between Americana and Britpop. They're finally getting a US release this week, and I certainly recommend it. It reminds me, particularly, of another Gallagher approved record from 2001 by a band (on Noel's Sour Mash label) called Proud Mary."

I'll say a little more...Jesse Malin recommended these guys to me after a gig in Atlanta, and I picked up a cheap import. There's certainly a Beatles/Byrds/Dylan?The Band influence at work here, but I also hear a jangle pop influence (The La's, Teenage Fanclub) and some slightly more edgy UK pop (The Coral, the Zutons) at play as well. Along with being a Noel Gallagher fave, they opened gigs for the Coral in the UK. It's great record, glorious in its simplicity. AND it's out in the US now, from the things I've seen on pre-release sheets...

Here's a review that I found when I first looked them up:

I finally found the URB Magazine top ten of 2004. I think they're having trouble adjusting to the post-rave world, and are now covering more indie rock. Considering that, the list is pretty predictable.

(no rankings, alphabetical)
Matthew Dear, Leave Luck To Heaven
De La Soul, The Grind Date
Diplo, Florida
DJ/rupture, Special Gunpowder
Interpol, Antics
Luomo, The Present Lover
Madvillian, Madvillainy
Murs, Murs 3:16 The 9th Edition
TV On The Radio, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
Kanye West, College Dropout

A little late in coming, but here's a 2004 best-of list from Paste magazine. It's a little eclectic, and doesn't have all of the usual suspects, so I thought it worth a posting.

2. Ron Sexsmith
3. Tom Waits
4. Wilco
5. Rilo Kiley
6. Patty Griffin
7. Bjork
8. Buddy Miller
9. Paul Westerberg
10. Loretta Lynn
11. Mindy Smith
12. Ray Lamontagne
13. Midlake
14. Mavis Staples
15. Earlimart
16. Modest Mouse
17. Jolie Holland
18. Polyphonic Spree
19. Iron & Wine
20. Sam Roberts

Honorable Mentions: Citizen Cope, Honeydogs, Magnetic Fields, Sam Phillips, Sondre Lerche, Drive-By Truckers, Gary Jules, A.C. Newman, Juana Molina, Norah Jones, The Sadies, Kanye West, Lori McKenna, Brian Wilson

Ms. Staples was the opening act for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers when they came to town a couple of years back.

She's still got it.
