Well said, mark. I need to revisit that record..I haven't given it the attention is obviously deserves.

I mentioned this in the Christmas music thread..."How to Make Gravy" is one of the finest songs written in the last 20-30 years. And he's got others that might compete ("When I First Met your Ma" and "So Much Water, So Close to Home" come to mind).

oh yeah... and the entirety of the Go! Team's latest album. particularly Huddle Formation, Get It Together, and Bottle Rocket... but they are really all excellent.

Late...very late...on a recent Friday night, I happened to catch a single on Seattle's KEXP from a band I'd not heard or heard of before called Mates of State. They're probably only news to me, but it's a husband and wife/drums and organ team so charmingly lo-fi as to be nearly outsider art. Anyway, I liked the album well enough on first listen to check out a couple of their albums that night, which I thought were pretty good. The next morning, I heard the same single, "Along for the Ride," on Ohio's WOXY and it's been true love ever since. I would expect it will be on my short list of favorite tracks of the year.

Now Playing: NPR's All Things Considered

mates of state are awesome.

their new song didn't excite me too much, though. if you dig 'em, then definitely check out their album "my solo project". it's surely their best.

My choice for best individual track would be off of my choice for the years number one cd, that being America's Sweetheart by Courtney Love. The best track from the cd, and my favorite track of the year is: Sunset Strip, an amazing song.

Believe me, that'll change, now that they've got a baby to take care of.

"King's Crossing" by: Elliot Smith is by FAR my favorite with "Hummingbird" by: Wilco coming in a wierdly close second and "Nanny Nanny Boo Boo" by: Le Tigre based on its super infectious nature in a distant distant third...

yeah... Last Exit is one incredible record... it's almost hard to pick a standout, but 'Teach Me How to Fight' is probably my favorite. Followed by 'Bellona'.
