The Seattle band Harvey Danger is releasing its new disc free on its website. They provide an interesting discussion of why they're doing it, with a link to the download, here:

If you only remember Harvey Danger for "Flagpole Sitta", their alternative radio 'hit', you should know they've got much more of a Ben Kweller/Ben Folds pop vibe than that song implies. Much like Nada Surf, they are much better than their one 'hit' would indicate.

I liked some of the other songs on that album. Of course, that was back in like 1998. Haven't heard their later stuff, which I've heard is better.

For my money, "Flagpole Sitta" was BY FAR the worst song on their debut.

I don't have the now out-of-print and fairly collectible second record, King James Version, but the new one is good.

Hmm..I don't know.

"Like a zero drowning in a sea of higher numbers" is a really annoying hook.

Private Helicopter and Jack the Lion are good songs, though. I know there's one or two other ones I liked but I haven't listened to it in years, so I can't remember.

very interesting.. i never expected these guys to be anything more than a 1 hit wonder.

unfortunately, i am at the point where i either need to stop downloading music, or i need to buy more harddrive space. sigh. whatever. i already have enough to last me for a lifetime and then some.

Harvey Danger actually had a really awesome song on their sophomore album entitled 'Meetings With Remarkable Men.' Unfortunately the album is no longer in production and REALLY hard to come by. But if you get a chance to find that track I recommend giving it a listen.

I have King James Version, and I think the whole album is terrific.

Really? I used to spot KJV in the cheap bins around here all the time. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Looks like there are few reasonably priced copies here.

I actually saw them live ages ago in a little Seattle club a few months before the big single they had exploded onto the airwaves. It was a decent show. I distinctly remember the lead singer making some joke about drowning in water he'd spilled on stage.
