A long time ago, Sierra released a game called Starsiege: Tribes. That game was originally meant to help raise money for their mech game Starsiege, which was a release meant to follow the previous title Earthsiege. Many people claim that the original tribes is the best; however, i'm going to claim that it's just had the most time in the hands of the fans (plus it was pretty much free seeing as how it was not protected at all.) I think that Tribes 2 was a failure in the FPS market and was too... 'esoteric'. The game, in my opinion just didn't have the calling power, what with a graphics system that was ages ahead of its time and, therefore, nearly unrunable on many machines. Not to mention the pissed of Tribes fans who could no longer ski to speeds that are ludicrous. For awhile, it seemed as if the Tribes legacy would be lost, until Tribes: Vengeance came. Okay, this is the entire point of my post. I have really come to like T:V as a game. It has the addictiveness of the original with some great new weapons that (in my gaming experience) are unique I.e. the 'Grappler' and the 'Buckler'. In addition to these new toys, there are the old favorites such as the spinfuser (which should be copyrighted to the trbes name if it isn't already), mortar, and an old favorite with new flare, the blaster. Heh, I didn't mean it to be so much of a review, but now that it is, how do you think T:V measures up to the other titles that came before it? And for that matter how do you think it measures up to the other games on the market today? One last thing, remember that whole starsiege game? Well, for the longest time I heard rumors of them maybe making a second. Well those rumors are half true. There is a mod being made for the T:V game that would effectively be a Starsiege 2. Starsiege was one of the greatest mech games made, too bad it didn't make it and was generally a failure as it didn't even come close to the original expectations. Yeah, this post is kind of a jumbled mess, forgive me. Please don't complain about how I spelled a word or structured a sentence unless you seriously can't understand what I meant. To re-somethingorother: How do you think Tribes: Vengeance measures up to the games on todays market?
This was one of the few games I was anticipating for the PC but I haven't really played any new games recently. Tribes 2 failed a lot because it was released too early. Most people don't have the patience for buggy games and why should they? The graphics were the biggest pain for me. But I think the game is well worth it. It's one of the best online experiences I've ever had with a game. I never expected Vengeance to be successful because it's not what people look for in a game. I do expect it to be a great game. I'll find some time for it eventually. I'm afraid the game will be as addicting as the second.
It's sad what happened to Dynamix. But it seems to be the new trend for great companies to go out of business. Thankfully we're still getting five Quake clones a year. Who needs intelligent games when you have rocket launchers and plasma guns?
