With the advent of Steam, It appears that Valve is pushing heavily towards online delivery of gaming content, at a much faster pace. This evolved fairly quickly to the episodic nature of Steams top two modern single-player games, SIN Episodes and Half-Life 2: Episode 1,2 and 3. With SIN Episodes: Emergence, and Half-Life 2: Episode 1, already on the market and garnering fairly high scores, this system seems to be doing well. Which begs me to ask, what do people think about this change in gaming? Is it worth it to drop twenty dollars for four to five hours of gameplay? Even if the games are delivered more frequently, is it worth the trade off?

Valve apparently believes they have it right, and from the metascores, they seem justified. Due to Valve’s heavy influence in this newly established method, this trend only seems to be affecting the FPS genre. Will it be as successful in other genres? RPGs? Strategy? Possibly even Sports?

A lot of questions, I’d love to hear opinions.

God i just bought hl2 episode 1 and I think it was a mistake, I would much rather wait an extra few years and play a decent 12 hour game with a storyline. When I beat the game in the same day that I bought it I felt disapointed and riped off.
