Does anyone remember the Gabriel Knight series, by Sierra Online, who unfortunately went out of business last year?

I loved those games. I played all three.

ranking them.

1. Sins of the Fathers
2. The Beast Within
3. Blood of the Sacred Blood of the Damned.

The first two were excellent masterpieces. Sins of the Father created a neo-noir supernatural world with a great dark atmosphere to it. Brilliant and the story telling as well as the puzzles were wonderful.

The second game The Beast Within was one of the entries into the fad of the mid 1990s with full motion video. But it's the only one I think that holds up. Unusual in that it was acted well, the dialogue was good, and the shooting solid. In fact I would argue that if the thing could be edited down and pieced into an actual movie it'd better than a lot of films today. I adore the story with the whole Ludwig II thing going on. And also how they avoided the typical wolfman look and went for the American Werewolf in London apperance instead.

Blood of the Sacred I didn't care for as much. I didn't really jive to well on the 3D thing. While it looked great and the interface was fine, it was just too difficult to pinpoint the triggers on the screen and stuff that needed to be accomplished. Plus I never did get beyond the whole Syndey bit, which was a huge distraction. An ambitious game nonetheless. I appreciate the effort and research that went into the historical aspect of it, but I don't think it was handled as well as it could have been.
