Man, I have been addicted to this MMORPG called FSO 2, It launched a couple a months ago and has so many awsome features, and has a wicked awsome free trial membership which never expires, you just dont get some of the same features as registered members. Even if you did want to register it would only cost a onetime $25 fee.

FSO2's list of features is huge. You can fight monster, fish, farm, blacksmith, work as a healer, lumberjack, carpenter, tailor, trap disarmer, thief, artist, etc.

FSO2 also allows your character to work as a shop keeper even when you're not online. In other MMORPG's you'd have to hire a shop keeper but in FSO2 you are the shop keeper. When you're ready to call it a night simply drink the shop elixer and your shop keeper will remain logged on even when you are not.

I definatly recomend trying it out. go to www.firststaronline2.com to check it out.

MMORPG's are very addictive ones.. I used to play MU, City of Heroes, City of Villians and Call of Duty, those games we're really fun to play. And now I'm constantly playing Gunbound and Ragnarok, I love those two games coz the characters are really cute specially when you accessorize them.

Yes, they're probably the best games out there if you're after loads of content and a big community.

However they're far to addictive for my taste which is why I stopped playing them about six months ago.

Personally, I believe MMORPGs thrive on a competition to see who can devote the most time to repetitious and addictive game-play. The fun, if you can call it that, lies in the sense of accomplishment at having higher statistics than your colleagues.

The most damning element is that of time investment; the more you play, the more the game indicates you are accomplishing something… and the less you play, the further behind you fall (in the grand scheme of things).

MMORPGs are evil. >:-(

I played Star Wars Galaxies when it first came out and have been playing City of Heroes for the last 3 years alternating it with City of Villains over the last year. I play them because of their subject matter and because I have a lot of real-life friends who use these games as both entertainment and a way to keep in touch with one another over long distances.

When I first picked up Galaxies, it was because I'm a BIG Star Wars fan (a shocker, I know), and I wanted to create a character in the Star Wars universe and play it. I've also always loved comic books and superheroes. When I was a wee little lad, I used to wake up every Saturday morning before my parents did just to watch the Justice League cartoon at 7am. So the opportunity to create superpowered characters with custom costumes is right up my alley.

I heard people talk about leaving Galaxies for whatever the other big MMORPG was back in 2003, but I had no idea what they were all talking about. Now, I've gone through the same thing with people leaving (and coming back) for/from World of Warcraft. I would never go for WoW though, because the subject matter (sword and sorcery) is not my cup of tea. It's not because I think it's a bad game. It's just that the subject matter wouldn't hold my attention - it would be a waste of the $15-20 a month account fee.

I like them, but I get tired of them rather quickly. World of Warcraft is the only one I've ever paid for and I'm glad you can play it sporadically and never lose your characters.

Yeah MMORPG's are cool but World of Warcraft is the shittiest, most boring pile of crap ive ever played (only for about a month that is) £8 a month for what? NOTHING BUT TIME WASTING. Play Guild Wars an amwesome free-to-play-online MMORPG.

Knight Online is a pretty good free MMORPG. I played it a long time ago, i think 1.5 years ago, but like all MMORPG, it took up too much of my freaking time so i had to delete it!

Yeah, I agree that free-to-play games are cool. Like, I at least want to be able to try a game and play it for a while before I pay anything.

This topic is definitely for me, cause I love MMORPGs. RIght now, I am checking out Sword of the New World. It has a lot of things I love, including that free to play deal. woot!

I echo that - for a long time I played World of Warcraft. The universe was so expansive and immersing that you can sink literally a years' worth of time into it and not notice. MMORPGs are, in my opinion, a way to get people so locked into something that they cannot live without it (though it's not as if they're living when they're spending their time away from the game planning a dungeon raid, or dreaming about the MMORPG they play. It's not like they're not fun, but they are hazardous - MMORPGs thrive by locking people into the game by making people think they've actually accomplished something. I had fun when I played World of Warcraft, but why spend your time making imaginary accomplishments? Whether free or not, they are better for the company than for the player.
And, as stated many times, they're simply addictive. The catches and accomplishments only serve to immerse you even more.

I have to say no, I dont particularly like MMORPGS (except for Guild Wars)

The problem I usually have with MMORPGs is members of the community. My style of play is a more casual, laid back player who doesnt care if he looses once in awhile. But I find in many MMORPGs that certain "hardcore" players become angered and threatened when loosing at something in the game. FOr example, World of Warcraft I find community members get really made when loosing a Alterac Valley match that lasts for more then 30 minutes. I find players try to point the finger quickly and gang up on a player. And the problem is that in MMORPGs you simply cant change your name or sometimes your play area to avoid certain players.

Other problems I have with MMORPGs are the long play times needed to become "powerful". I am not the person who likes to sit at their computer for 5 hours doing raids in Guild Wars or WoW. So many MMORPGs have this notion that it SHOULD take a certain length of time to do something. WHy not just make it shorter but more difficult.

My last beef with MMORPGs in linearism. Not many MMORPGs offer new content that is a new UNIQUE gameplay. I hate to say it, but the Diablo II patch that allowed spells to influence other spells/runes and the expansion probably added more new unique gameplay then the Burning Crusade expansion for WoW. Its simply the same game but with new creatures and locations. ANd no offense but why would creatures wander around looking like their lost and let you gang up on them and kill them? It just never made sense to me.
