for most current games I've found the ATI radeon 9800 pro is great on a decent system, and not too expensive. any less and you'll get shit quality, but this one sings with farcry and san andreas. but now I have an ATI XT850 platinum which is just too ridiculous for words... no game has made it hiccup even FEAR at 1600x1024 with max shaders etc, or the largest maps in civ IV, or largest parks in rollercoaster tycoon 3 with max textures on park goers
/although i could have bought an xbox 360 for it...
//at MSRP retail price not ebay

I wanna get a New G-card, I have a redeon 300x se, I want to know if Im gona have 2 update evrything on my comp if I get a good card, the comp is only a year old. My mom bought it as a package deal and she paid way 2 much for this thing.
if it's only a year old, unless your mom got it in china, a new video card should really take care of graphics problems. 2 things however, you should look out for: I would recommend buying more RAM, this makes every computer faster, esp if you have less than a gigabyte currently. the other thing is heat, which probably won't be an issue for you. look for the above models (my other post) for less than $200 - you can get a Radeon 9800 which I would still recommend. I like ATI better than Nvidia.

I used to be a Nvidia fanboy until i found out they had cheated alot on certain tests.
They end up higher than ATi on tests because they rely on heavy driver optimisation, not actually on the hardware enough. Pixel corruption.... less detail than ATi cards. ATi is pure quality over Nvidia's 'speed'.
@1337 pwner,
X300 SE's are PCI-E, are they not? So you shouldnt need to upgrade the motherboard, unless your SK754?

Well I recommend NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX, only because I got this one. I got this when it was first out at I think £670, but 2 later ones are released, so it should drop by now.

I would recommend a Geforce 4 6800GS, it's not the newest card out there by any means, but it's cheap (<$200) and it'll run any game out there today. It was anantech's best video card for the price only a few months ago and it's still a great deal!
Or, my personal favorite, is an XFX nVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT with 512 MBs of RAM, and it's only about $260 after a mail-in rebate, which is diiiirrrt cheap. Just don't get the one without a fan, cause I don't trust that, no matter who says it's just as cool as one with a fan.

Wulfram and have on board graphics only, it seems to be ok , but if I were to buy a graphic card what does anyone suggest? I've never bothered with a card before as I've always been told I dont need it for my game.
