I am not buying Modern Warfare 2 unless it will support dedicated Clan-operated servers! Period. At the time I'm posting this reply there are currently 104,404 signatures, and growing, on the petition to Infinity Ward in favor of MW2 supporting dedicated servers! If every one of those people boycotted MW2 then at $70.00 a pop that represents a loss in revenues for Infinity Ward of $7,308,280 dollars! That's right my fellow gamers, a loss of over 7.25 million dollars! That's how we screw Infinity Ward back and that's how we get them to do what we want with dedicated servers! Hit them in the wallet where it hurts the most! That's why I'm not buying MW2 and you should not either!

The above was posted on Infinity Ward's website and deleted by them after only 5 minutes. I am a member of a clan which started over a year ago, based on Modern Warfare and now branching out into other lines of games. Having no dedicated servers takes away game modification, hacker protection, regulating and a myriad of other important features for online PC gaming.

I have found a detailed account of all the information that BestBuy and Infinity Ward tried to cover up, during a recent online interview with gamers. Be aware, every gamer involved in the chat was immediately kicked upon asking a legitimate question. I know this because my clan was involved in it.

On top of me personally boycotting the game, I feel Metacritic is doing a great injustice by not screening the game reviews to insure that they are in fact covering the PC VERSION. Looking at almost all of the 90+ scores they either include a tidbit that touches down on how lackluster the PC Version is or do not even address the PC Version as a separate game but rather rate the game as a whole (testing done on the console's).

I have to say, my faith in the PC gaming community is strengthened tenfold. Close to 1500 user reviews and the game is sitting at 1.3 out of 10. Thank you to everyone who has voiced their concerns and boycotted the game. And xenocide, I agree with you 100%.

I can't believe they expect $60 for this.
It's basically a console game, but thanks to Steam DRM it's not resellable. It's worth much less than the PS or Xbox version because of this, yet the price is no different.
It's bad enough that they've stripped dedicated servers and console, but to charge the price they are for it is outrageous.
Piracy, overzealous DRM, and low-expectation consolers are killing gaming.

Here's an interesting read regarding multiplayer connection speeds:

Taken from www.fpsadmin.com

After all, isn't that really the question that IW has squashed (or so they thought) by removing real ping values from the game in favor of a cell phoneesque 4 bar display?

IW's intent with this system seems to be to take the players focus off this oh so important value at best, and to truly cover up the truth at worst.

Since launch, many a player has been left trying to figure out how to interpret the bar display as related to ping. Players knew that the p2p experience was lacking, but they had nothing tangible to point to when airing grievances about their displeasure with IWNet in regards to ping/lag.

However, it didn't take long for the PC community (being the pirates and hackers that we are, chuckle) to figure out a way to extract more useful data from this hobbled system. Now PC gamers can better predict and track the true online experience if for no other reason than to shed light on what we already know, that p2p style multiplayer gaming reduces MW2 to a level that we thought we left behind in the 80's.

I present to you the following, which was found on the IW forums and is sure to carry the p2p/ping debate to new heights.

Quote:
• Navigate to the folder: 'program files\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players' and open the file config_mp.cfg

• Change scoresping_interval from 100 to 20, and maxbars from 4 to 10 (10 is the max).

• This means that each of the 10 bars represents 20ms, with full green being 20ms or lower, and 1 red being 200ms or higher.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

The earth did not move beneath my feet as I played Modern Warfare (PC version) back in 2007, but I still enjoyed it. I suspect that I will not be overcome as by an earthquake with MW2, especially considering that its single player campaign is only slightly longer than the extended edition of LOTR: The Return of the King .

I've never been a multiplayer gamer, and thought it highly appropriate when I earned the 'Does Not Play Well with Others' achievement in Fallout 3.
