Here's an interesting read regarding multiplayer connection speeds:
Taken from
www.fpsadmin.comAfter all, isn't that really the question that IW has squashed (or so they thought) by removing real ping values from the game in favor of a cell phoneesque 4 bar display?
IW's intent with this system seems to be to take the players focus off this oh so important value at best, and to truly cover up the truth at worst.
Since launch, many a player has been left trying to figure out how to interpret the bar display as related to ping. Players knew that the p2p experience was lacking, but they had nothing tangible to point to when airing grievances about their displeasure with IWNet in regards to ping/lag.
However, it didn't take long for the PC community (being the pirates and hackers that we are, chuckle) to figure out a way to extract more useful data from this hobbled system. Now PC gamers can better predict and track the true online experience if for no other reason than to shed light on what we already know, that p2p style multiplayer gaming reduces MW2 to a level that we thought we left behind in the 80's.
I present to you the following, which was found on the IW forums and is sure to carry the p2p/ping debate to new heights.
Quote:
• Navigate to the folder: 'program files\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\players' and open the file config_mp.cfg
• Change scoresping_interval from 100 to 20, and maxbars from 4 to 10 (10 is the max).
• This means that each of the 10 bars represents 20ms, with full green being 20ms or lower, and 1 red being 200ms or higher.
