Hey:
I'm looking to get a new game soon for my PC and was wondering (mostly addressed to those who have played the 360 version of the Bioshock demo, I guess), which one of these is better: Oblivion or Bioshock?

Thanks,
Justin

What does this all mean? Bioshock in 1080p in living room.... who the hell needs a Xbox360?

The fact of the matter is... Bioshock won't be out for another few days but the demo was brilliant and Oblivion is a fantastic game. However, I think if you want to get a new game you should go for Bioshock just on the basis that Oblivion has remained the same price since it's release.

it really depends on what type of gamer you are. oblivion can be 200 hours (40 hours main quest, rest side quests) so its a great value for your money. but then again you might not have much time to devote to oblivion. personally i think oblivion is one of the best games i've ever played but i just don't get to play it that much now. though i have around 80 hours or so.

now for bioshock, i can't really say since i haven't downloaded the demo yet but i think it'll be similar to half-life in quality fps.

you really can't wrong with either one.

also a few other good pc games: FEAR, Supreme Commander and Warcraft III (not WoW just stay away).

Thanks for the suggestions. Just another quick question: Do I need to have played any of the previous Elder Scrolls games to know what is going on in Oblivion? Thanks.

Bioshock for sure!!! Oblivion is an awesome game. Bioshock.... is near perfection. I have played the 360 version for 8 hours. The story, graphics and gameplay are too good to be true.

i have never played any other elder scrolls games and I don't seem to be missing anything. Each game has covered a different country/region of this giant parallel world. this one covers the capital region. all of the races are from specific regions but you really don't need to know them and you'll probably figure out because it comes up in conversations every once in a while. point is you'll be fine without having played any other ones.

Get Morrowind instead of Oblivion. Better story + no level / loot scaling = Get it. OK, Oblivion has better graphics, combat system and a couple of excellent quests (Two words: Thieves' Guild), but Morrowind is a better game overall. Or you could just get Bioshock. Either way, don't get Oblivion.

Alternative PC RPGs: Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale (if you like hack & slash stuff), Planescape: Torment (might be a bit hard to find - it's out of print, due to people thinking Diablo is a better game) and Fallout 2.

Sir, I beg to differ!

Morrowind DID have level/loot scaling. Go
check the Morrowind editor if you don't
believe me.

I halfway agree with your assesment of story.
Morrowind's was better; they either had a better
writer on staff or the writer led the production
of the game--or heavily influenced it, anyway.

Still, of the two, Morrowind is the inferior in a lot of respects; it champions mood and story, which are important to immersion, but that's not to say that Oblivion is -bad- in those elements. It's just not another Baldur's Gate II.

That in mind, I'd recommend snagging Oblivion and checking out the mods readily available online to fix the loot/level scaling, add additional features, fix things that shouldn't have occured, and so forth.

Before you smash a game, you should really check the community behind it. If anything, the Oblivion community is ten times stronger than the Morrowind community and -already- is churning out expansion pack worth mods and equipment--I'm surprised Bethesda doesn't just start sending out requests to the community, or start a contest, or something to reward such excellent modding and skill.

EDIT: You can still buy PlaneScape: Torment; don't let the person above me confuse you. Link provided for the lazy. http://www.amazon.com/Havas-Interactive-C95-862-0-Plane...orment/dp/B00002EPZ2

There are other sites; link provided was to simply prove the online existence thereof.

Iamnotpretending, Bioshock's more like a 1 person shooter game vs Oblivion's more like an RPG where you get to screw anything in more ways than one. So take your pick.

Both are totally different games. You just have to test drive them both to get a good feel of what game you'd rather play the most. Happy gaming!

Although Bioshock is a fantastic game, it has nowhere near the amount of content of Oblivion. Also, Oblivion has expansion packs to add even more content.

There's really no comparison if you only have enough money for one game and you're looking for the best value.

However, I will say that everyone should play through Bioshock once. Just buy it when you have the money to get another game.

I played the demo of BioShock and that was it for me. Oblivion by a land slide. I got all the content for Oblivion too and it's all pretty cool. BioShock is worth renting but Oblivion will take a lot longer to complete.

ya, i agree with thommy thom. it is slightly better than oblivion, mostly because its story is more immersive. dont ge tme wrong, oblivion has a great story, but not as much creativity and emotion bioshock has. nuff said.

If you haven't bought it yet, here's my suggestion:

As was stated earlier, it really depends on the type of gamer you are. If you like the quick, fast-paced game, then BioShock is going to be your game. I played the 360 Demo as well as saw my brother-in-law play it and it was pretty interesting. The concept of the game is quite impressive. But, there's not too much replayability with the game. Once you beat it with the 2 main storylines, there's not much you can do with it, unless you want to mix-and-match abilities, or just relieve some stress.

Oblivion on the other hand is much more expansive but a lot slower. You'll spend a lot of time in transit, dungeon crawling, and questing. But, the replay value of Oblivion is enormous. I've played through the game numerous times and I still haven't waded through everything there is (I still have yet to be a vampire). The expansions also add a lot to it (and if you have a 360, you can buy Oblivion with the expansions for the same price as the original game, it might be true for the PC as well).

As for the suggestion of Morrowind, I find it a lot slower than Oblivion was. The storyline was more interesting, true, but the combat was cumbersome, the dialogue was repetitive, and the later quests were pretty difficult. But for the PC, the cheating aspect of it can be pretty fun. Wink I would recommend Oblivion over Morrowind simply for the combat system. Hitting one button to bring up magic, while hitting another button to get back to weapons was just ... yeah.

But if you were even thinking of another game to get, get Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. That game is said to be one of the best (if not THE best) FPS of all time. So if you're leaning towards BioShock and might be able to shell out a few more dollars, go for that [Call of Duty 4].

Arrgh. I'm comin' for pillagin'!
