One of the topics I'm fascinated by is the regional difference in fast food. I remember hanging out at Mardi Gras a while back and LOVING some of the stuff we ate (po boys, etc.) down there that you'd never get here in L.A. But having eaten' a lot of fast food in a lot of places, I still have to say Southern California reigns.

For this topic, give me you TOP 3 local or "regional" fast food places where you live, and what your favorite meal is at each of those places:

(1) In 'N Out Burger

Yes, an obvious choice for So Cal. My typical meal would be a Double Double, with Grilled Onions, fries and a coke....Hmmmm.....

(2) Tommy's Burgers

Famous for their special blend of Chili, I usually go for a double chili burger with chili fries. That chili is so thick, there's almost no nead for a napkin. None of that is falling off the burger, I tell you.

(3) Wolfe Burger

A hole-in-the-wall joint in Pasadena. I was one of their first customers back in the day, but I still love their double-quarter-pound "Big Bad Wolfe" burger with fries and a chocolate ice cream shake. And if it's a particularly hungry day, a little flan for dessert.

Damn... Can somebody guess I'm hungry??? Considering it's the middle of the night, I might have to be off to Tommy's (the only place on the list that's 24 hours....)

I would have to say my top 3 favorite fast food places where I live are......

1. Cheeseboard Pizza

The BEST pizza.. A different slice everyday, immediate service and the tastiest, yummiest pizza. So, I cant really say my favorite dish there.

2. Crepes A Go Go

I love Crepes and this place will make them for you in a matter of seconds. There are so many different kinds of crepes but my favorite is the nutella and strawberry one.

3. Rubios. I know MGE, you have this in LA. But we also have it in the bay area and I love it. My favorite dish is the fish tacos.

I don't eat much fast food, but my two favorites are White Castle and Del Taco.

I do eat at some fast dine-in places (St. Louis Bread Company, which is Panera Bread everywhere else, and Qdoba) but I tend to frequent locally owned and operated establishments when I can

We used to have an In N' Out burger here but it closed down. They were really good. We have a Po' Boys here MGE but they are not that good.

Burger Barn-this fast-food joint is in a small town called Hawthorned about 30 minutes from Gainesville. They have some of the most fattening cheeseburgers I have ever had.

Leonardo's Pizza: By the Slice-They have two different Leonardo's Pizza one is by the slice and the other is by the pie. I like the former much better because there are no leftovers but the slices they sell are huge and they have all of the regional pizzas such as New York Style and Chicago Style, I am not sure if they have a SoCal style. But they are really good.

Godfather's Pizza-I'm pretty sure that it is a Mom and Pop joint. They have a buffet that is extremely good with every type of pizza imaginable. It is near my old high school so during lunch me and a couple of friends would always go down there and grab a bite to eat instead of the damn high school food.

ACH I feel left out. Auburn, Alabama is culinary hell where ketchup is spicy and Chili's is considered fine dining...

On an unrelated food note, Gainesville FINALLY got a Ben and Jerry's, actually we got two one right after the other. I was so tired of buying them damn pints for 3 bucks, but they are so good.

When you talk about "fast food," does it only identify chains as Mc Donalds or Wendys? Im not sure if this is the right place to put this question though. But, when people talk about "fast food" being so unhealthy, are they also only specifying chains?

When I talk about "Fast Food" I include all of the fatty, fast places not just BK, Wendy's and McDonalds. Regional fastfood is just as fatty if not more than nationwide fast food. But this thread in particular is about regional fast food.

A regional fast food in Northern New Jersey (specifically, the Paterson, NJ area), are "Texas Weiners", which are hot dogs with mustard, onions, and chili sauce. They're probably called Chili-Dogs in other parts of the U.S., and I'm sure they're made a little different. Since I don't live that close to Northern NJ anymore (about an hour and a half away), it's always a treat when I'm up there to have them.

And I live relatively close to Philadelphia as well, and I can attest that if you love cheese steaks, no one else makes them like they do in Philly. Sure, other places try, but they all fail miserably.
