I know it is a little late in the season but I really like Nascar. I was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt's for a long time. Although I was still pretty young, I always rooted for him and wanted him to win the elusive Daytona 500. He was my favorite driver; I loved the way he drove, I loved his personality and I loved his nickname. I was so sad when he passed and instantly became a Dale Jr. fan. I also really like Tony Stewart but I thoroughly dislike Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. I have always disliked Gordon since I watched Earnhardt Sr. go toe-to-toe with him and dislike him even more now.

This is a thread to post your comments on the current season and upcoming seasons. Do you like that Mark Martin sits out some races? Do you think Gordon is overrated? Is Tony Stewart a loose cannon? Who is your favorite driver? What did you think of the most recent race? Things of that nature. Please don't just come here and post hateful comments about Nascar or on how you don't consider it a sport. This is a thread to talk about Nascar, not to bash it.

How do people feel about Dale Jr. leaving DEI at the end of the season? I am glad for Junior because from what I heard, his step-mother was too controlling and Junior always stated that his dad would have wanted him to have a large part in the company--somthing he doesn't have.

I would like Dale Jr. to go to Richard Childress Racing where his father won six championships and where they still own the rights to the black No. 3 car. I think his dad would be proud of his son driving his car and I hope Junior goes that route.

Dale Jr. just announced he is going to race for Hendrick Motorsports. I have mixed feelings. He will be with a winning team and owner but I can't stand Jeff Gordon nore Jimmie Johnson (new team mates). I just hope he starts delivering some quality wins. Anyone else care?

I don't have any problem with it.

Yes and no. He's certainly one of the most talented out there, but, when it comes to media, he's certainly become the 'darling.'

Is Tony Stewart a loose cannon?
Of course, he is, but that's exactly the role he prefers.

Presently, Denny Hamlin. I had the chance to meet and chat with him last year in Phoenix, AZ in the FedEx tent. He's a great up'n'comer.

Great track, crappy rain!

I never bash NASCAR.

I never bash NASCAR. I let the drivers bash the cars. That's good enough for me.

Erm ... I'm not really a Jr. fan. I think he gets an awful lot of attention for someone who really hasn't earned the spotlight. He's been off his game the last two years (or so), so maybe he'll come 'round once he's driving with a team that he shows some obvious support for. He's just been so negative for so long I find it hard to take him seriously.

I am curious what you all think about automobile racing being a sport in the contest of physical conditioning. What does it take for a driver physically? Thanks.
Drive on...

Driving is most definitely a physical contest. Those cars don't turn themselves, and it takes a lot of strength to turn them and keep them under control. Not to take anything away from the proud women of the sport, but there's a reason why it's rare to see a woman in the winner's circle - those cars take a lot of strenth to drive.

I thought it was because every few laps they want to stop and ask for directions.

...Sorry ladies. Couldn't resist.

eric, the problem is that our jokes are falling on deaf ears. Not only are there very few ladies that browse/post on these forums, I'd be surprised if there were any who actually click on the Nascar thread.

Hrrrmmmm, did I say problem? It's probably for the best.

Yeah, we'd have to label it something different than just 'Nascar' to get the ladies looking.

I don't know about everyone else but I am getting pretty pumped up about the big Daytona 500 tomorrow. I really think that my favorite driver, Dale Jr., has a great chance to win the race and I will be rooting for him. Anyone else going to catch it? And if you are, who are you rooting for?

Well, Jr. didn't win but he finished strong (9th) and I was glad to see Tony Stewart finish 3rd. There weren't a lot of crashes but the end of the race was very exciting.

Stewart didn't look too happy in that interview. It's amazing how these drivers who don't win always blame their lack of team help and poor performance of their cars. These guys need to learn how to lose gracefully. And Penske finishing 1,2 is huge for that team.

I don't get Nascar, but I think the last 5-10 laps of a race are quite exciting. Daytona was no exception.
