Nobody's talked about this yet this year. USC/Notre Dame, anybody? That was a crazy game. I have a few thoughts, but let's make sure that, if you don't know, I'm a Southern California sports fan. I like all the local teams. I don't care about the NFL anymore because I have nobody to root for.
USC must be the least-disciplined No. 1 team in history, or the refs have it in for them. They get far more penalties each game than their opponents. Today was no exception. Notre Dame had half of their first downs in the first half on penalties.
Notre Dame looked like the better team, even with all the help from the penalties. They marched down the field on their last drive with no resistance whatsoever. USC's final two plays were incredibly bizarre and caused me to start this thread, even though we had a lengthy one last year. When that ball went out of bounds with seven seconds left, I think it was in the field of play and not the endzone. They never bothered to show an in-depth angle to show that. If it went out in the endzone, it would have been the Irish's ball.
But the play I want to know about is the quarterback sneak afterwards. In the NFL, if somebody from your team pushes you forward, your team gets a penalty. Now, it sure looked like Leinart was stopped and he got pushed forward by the halfback (Bush?) I don't know if the NCAA has a similar rule. If they don't, and that was Bush, I guess he deserves the Heisman (if USC goes undefeated.) If they do, CHEAT!!! (See, I believe in fairness. I don't care which team does what.)
I will say that 4th-and-9 pass by USC was awesome. I hope everybody watched that game. I think that Notre Dame's ranking should go up, not down.
What do y'all think?

It's a good time to bring up college football now that the BCS poll is coming out. The sneak at the end of the game was pure magic. With the way college overtime is structured, I would have never guessed he would sneak it. As far as the rule goes, I am not sure if there is a similar one in college, but in the pro's they very rarely call it. I see linemen all the time come and try to push the pile forward. I am not sure if it is different if they are trying to push the pile as opposed to one player, but I see it all the time. I think that was Bush's best game of the season bar none. I am not sure about Notre Dame's raniking going up. Florida State lost, so that might help, but I definitely don't think they should drop.

There's definitely a rule against assisting the runner like that, but it's NEVER enforced. Linemen in a pile push the QB or RB forward all the time. Amazing game. SC has gone into three hostile environments with a massive target on their backs and came out with w's. 'Nuff said. I'm looking forward to #1 SC vs. # 5 UCLA (yes, they won't lose before then) on December 3 for a ticket to the Rose Bowl.

USC is going to absolutely paste UCLA. Is Reggie Bush big and durable enough for the NFL? He's unbelievable nonetheless. As much as I love College Football, the games are waaaaaaayyyyy too long.
UT beat Texas Tech, and (until last weekend) Tech was unbeaten, so that helped UT's strength of schedule (because USC only played/beat some shitty team). Over the rest of the season things should even out though and USC will return to number one in the BSC.
Does anyone have the October 15th Notre Dame/USC game on video or DVD that they could send me a copy of? It's for an elderly friend who is a die-hard fan and missed the game. Send me an e-mail at: IPTF@aol.com.
Wow! I'm sorry I haven't posted earlier. Between all the crummy reffing, crummy coaching, sloppy playing and pumped-up excitement of the second half, I should have posted several times already about the Rose Bowl.

I didn't have any rooting interests, so I sort of cheered for both teams for different reasons. I wanted to see SC win to see how long they could keep it going. I wanted Texas to win because I really do think Mack Brown is a super coach and wanted to see him get the monkey off his back. I can't help but feel SC got hosed a little on calls. The funble in the 4th quarter could have gone either way, but the non-review of Texas' first touchdown turned out to be the difference in the game. I wish they would have had the Orange Bowl officiating crew. That said, it was a super game and a great end to the season.

Wow, what a game, what a performance. My favorite part was when Young attempted that lateral after Bush had humiliated himself trying to do the same thing only minutes earlier. What balls.
"The eyes of Texas are upon you, all the live long day. The eyes of Texas are upon you, you cannot get away. Do not think you can escape them, at night or early in the morn. The eyes of Texas are upon you, till Gabriel blows his horn!"
That was a great game. Unfortunately it looked like Young's knee was down when he lateraled that ball. Whatever though, play stands. When he ran it looked like everyone else was moving in slow motion.

On the other hand, I'm glad west virginia and penn state won, and im really glad notre dame lost, although the score difference should have been larger.
