Just to throw a spanner in this USA love in, my favourite sports team must be the Brisbane Broncos (Rugby League). Champions many times, and the backbone of the Australian team for many years. They love to run and throw the ball around, and uniquely, for a league team, they have had the same coach since inception, 19 years ago!

Baltimore Ravens! Thug life 4 evah, baby. I grew up loving the Baltimore Colts. Season tix and everything. Saw Unitas play in his last year with the ponies. I never forgave them for sneaking out in the middle of the night. I'll never use Mayflower Van Lines, for the same reason. And I curse the Irsay family, down the generations. When the Ravens came to Balto, I, like lot's of people, embraced them. They've had their ups and downs, but I love the defensive package, and, yes, even Ray Lewis!

I'm a lifelong Redskins fan. One of my first sports memories was watching them destroy the Denver Broncos in the '87 Super Bowl. That pretty much got me hooked for life. Another big reason I feel so strongly about them is the '90-91 season when they won the super bowl. The buzz about the city(and neighboring suburbs) was simply infectious. I was just 8 at the time, so I might have had a skewed perception, but I can't ever remember experiencing a more exhilarating feeling about sports. Tony Kornheiser wrote these "Bandwagon" articles for the Washington Post all season that were basically about how the Redskins were destined to win the Super Bowl that year and nothing could stop them. That was the pinnacle of sports journalism for me. No matter how bad he is on MNF, I will always be a fan of his because of that season. The articles are here, though I don't know if any non Redskins fan would find them interesting. Regardless, there's no better way to explain the feeling of that season than to point you to those articles. Anyways, this all makes me long for the good ol' days. I could handle the 15 years of losing if the team were likable, but Dan Snyder is just about the least likable owner in all of sports. He's worse than Jerry Jones, and aims to be Steinbrenner. Ugh.

I don't think I could keep to one but as a lot of you know, I am a diehard Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan. I was just old enough to see when Troy Aikman was drafted and to see them and their great coach, Jimmie Johnson, go 1-15. After that, things quickly turned around. I remember showing up to family get-togethers where half of the people wore 49er colors and the other half, Cowboy colors. I hated and still hate the 49ers; I never liked Joe Montana and Jerry Rice and after that, Steve Young or any other great player they had. I always recognized them as premier players and they were but boy did I despise them. The Cowboys owned them for quite some time and they were just one special team. I still love them and know that they will relieve their glory days soon. I liked the Yankees mentality as a team trying to get respect in baseball. After Buck Showalter left, they hired Joe Torre and became a power house. I remember watching Showalter’s last game as the Yankees lost to the Mariners in the playoffs and Ken Griffey Jr. came sliding home in that infamous scene. The Yankees were not a good team back then but I loved them. They then added a slew of players—young and old—and created a powerful dynasty. I remember staying up late to watch their World Series against the heavily favored Braves. I remember watching a young Andy Pettite defeat John Smoltz, I remember seeing some dude named Jim Leyritz delivering big hits and home runs in extra innings. I should have been asleep but nothing was going to keep me away from watching those games. They will turn things around and like I have said way before, will win the AL East again and go deep in the playoffs.
----- I go to sleep and think you're next to me.
