Well as you can imagine if you read the "What's going on" thread, my holidays have been pretty chaotic. Sorry I never got back here to make my final picks, but I've only had a few minutes a day to spare on the lap top. I did get some quality time over the weekend watching some bowl games. Here are some thoughts:
1. The SEC won their first 5 (of 9) Bowls and are currently 6-2. Don't forget that South Carolina was bowl eligible. Anyone who still thinks the SEC is over-rated please send me a PM and I'll set you straight.
2. I'm glad Lloyd Carr finished with a win. It's also no skin off my behind that the Gators lost-- they will be a FORCE next year and that's bad enough. But the way, why the hell was an unranked Michigan squad who lost to a D2 school even given such a decent Bowl? It was a lose, lose situation for Florida. Not fair.
3. While we're at it, why the hell did Missouri have to face the 5th best team in the SEC? That was a mismatch if ever there was one. Mizzou should have either been in the Sugar against GA or in the Citrus (Capitol One) against Florida. Personally, I wish the Sugar Bowl would make a deal with the Big 12 so it would always be the B12 vs the SEC.
4. Much as I hate the Bulldogs, I'm so glad they took care of business against the WAC champions down in New Orleans. Can we once and for all leave them out of the big bowls please? Stop pretending that that is a real conference.
5. Did you see all the empty seats in the lesser bowls? When is College football going to realize that a playoff is more exciting and ultimately more profitable?

I agree with a lot of what you said MJ, I shared a lot of the same sentiments here.
I did pick Florida to win but I was happy for Michigan and Lloyd Carr. He always seems to have his bowl teams ready and they were impressive in that win against “Superman” and the Gators.
And you are so right about Hawai’i, those guys should have lost somewhere in the regular season and yes, the empty seats is pretty bad. What’s worse is all of these remote locations where some bowls are held that teams need to travel to. They are pointless and all the positives seem to be on the playoff side of this issue.

One more day before the 'big' game (It's hard to get too excited as it's possible that they will both have two losses after tomorrow night). Any last minute observations? Did you guys hear about the "DVD" that the OSU coaches gave their team before the holidays?

Can't say I didn't see that coming. OSU goes to 0-9 (?) against the SEC in Bowl games. Lucky for them, most their team will be back next year and they'll have pretty much the same cake walk season they had this season and be back to lose in the BCS Championship game next year

Can't say I didn't see that coming either. As an OSU fan since birth, I have to admit defeat to a better team. No adjustments to their defense at all throughout the game really hurt. Also, I really liked their offensive look at the beginning of the game. If they didn't have stupid penalties based on frustration or whatever, it could have been closer. But, that wouldn't have altered the outcome.
MJ: OSU does have a more difficult schedule next year (USC at USC in non-conference), so I don't know about being back next year. I kind of wish they played a lesser bowl this year when they were extremely young and then compete next year. If they beat USC early, they will have a lot less people rolling their eyes at their schedule if they happen to end up there. Wins over Akron, Kent St., etc. just don't cut it. This was a really weak non-conference year for them, which has not been the case in other years (they had Texas the last two, USC for the next two).

That's good to hear. I don't know why there aren't more regular season matchups between the power conferences. I for one, would love to see a Big Ten team on Tennessee's schedule every year as opposed to playing Vandy year in and year out.

Because they have such a hard time beating them every year, regardless of record?
