I'm counting down the days to September 1st. I don't really like my Gators chances of repeating, even with the weak schedule, but I still am dying to watch to football already.

You realize the only team I hate more than the Gators is the Yankee$$? [Grammar police, should that have been "are the Yankee$$?].
Seriously, my Vols have a tough road as well (who thought starting the season at Cal would be a good idea?). Most of what I've read has them finishing 3rd or 4th in the SEC East. Ouch. I'm hoping the experts are wrong, but I don't know-- I think we are still a year away from a great season. I'll be ecstatic if we get 9 wins, but I'm betting we only get to 8.

Glad to see that some other people love college football as much as I do. I love to watch it and I love to go over the bridge to go bet on teams. I really think I know a lot about it (who's going to win here and so on) and since I don't have a favorite team I am pretty fair. I remember last year when everyone thought that Texas was going to kill Ohio State in one of those opening games. I quietly stepped in, made my wager and won a ton of money.
Anyways, I expect big things out of Michigan, USC and LSU this year. The SEC is still, by far, the best conference in the country but LSU looks to be the cream of the crop.
I found out this week that the fastest back in the SEC (Lamarcus Coker, UT) is out indefinitely for violation of team rules. UT has a plethora of talented backs, some of which are on the road back from recovery, but none of them are as electric with the ball as Coker. Seriously, the last time I saw speed like that from a back in the SEC? Bo Jackson.

Go Buckeyes! (Please do not remind me of last year's national championship games in football AND basketball and the fact that OSU lost almost its entire offensive unit for this year)

Although Ohio State was beaten by Florida in the football and basketball championship they were and are one of the best programs in the country. All that speed on offense, I thought it was going to be a much closer game than it was against Florida.
My favorite game of the year, that epic, instant classic between Michigan and Ohio State is stil my favorite one. It was thrilling to watch and after that game many people thought that they should have rematched in the championship game. Then, Florida routed Ohio State; that makes me wonder how Florida would have played against Michigan.
Anyways, all this talk is more reason for a plus one game. Oh well, I am off to listen to "Plus Ones" by Okkervil River off their The Stage Names album, have all you guys heard that album yet? You need to.
Pretty cool to see that everyone's preferred team, so far in this thread, matches their location. (Aside from Neutral FKA Hotel) I'll throw my hat into the ring for Penn State, who play their home games on the outskirts of In The Light. What a town!

Jules: Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass.

I really am not a die-hard fan for any team. UTEP is the home team here and I definitely cheer for them but I don't consider myself a die-hard fan. One thing is for sure, I have never really liked Texas and I would always bet against them when they would play Oklahoma. Except for their undefeated season, the Sooners own them.
I do like a lot of different teams, that I always lean towards. Schools like Virginia Tech and Kansas State (when Snyder was there) come to mind. But mostly, I just love the game, and I will have a lot to say about it.
Here's an idea. I thought I'd post a few key match-ups every week. If you want, you can post your predictions. I'll keep (or you can keep your own) running tally on how you do every week. At the end of the bowl season we'll crown a Metacritic College Football Guru for whoever has the best winning percentage and that poster will have bragging rights until the 2008 season. No point spreads, I'll only count wins and losses. I haven't really taken a look at the whole season, but I found 12 decent matchups during the first week. The first game I picked, will happen on Thursday, August 30th @ 8:00pm Eastern. Any post made before that time will be eligible. Here are your games for week 1:
Thursday, August 30th:
#2 LSU @ Mississippi State
Friday, August 31st:
Washington @ Syracuse
Saturday, September 1st:
Colorado State @ Colorado
Marshall @ Miami (FL)
Virginia @ Wyoming
#14 UCLA @ Stanford
Georgia Tech @ Notre Dame
Wake Forest @ Boston College
Ole Miss @ Memphis
Oklahoma State @ #13 Georgia
#15 Tennessee @ #12 California
Monday, September 3rd:
Florida State @ Clemson
Again, I haven't really been keeping up with College Football during the offseason, with the exception of my Tennessee Vols, so if there are some matchups that you think I'm missing or if there are some matchups above that aren't worthy let me know and I'll add or change them as necessary. Good luck and may the best poster win!

Thanks for the love, Max. I went to CSU and being in the Mountain West, don't get a lot of pub. This game is billed as the Rocky Mountain Showdown and is played at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver (where the Broncos play). While CU obviously has the edge(to put it gently) historically, in the last ten contests they only hold a 6-4 advantage, and all but a few of those have been very close.
Anyway, last year's game was God-awful even though we won, so I'm expecting better things this year, especially since we'll have our #1 RB Kyle Bell back in action. He led the conference in rushing two years ago, but missed the entire 2006 season due to injury.
The Showdown is not as big for us as the Border War vs Wyoming since it has no bearing on the conference, but it's still a big game.

sorry jack i didn't notice that. i'm a huge college football fan, especially sec football.
LSU at Mississippi State: LSU 45 - Miss State 7
I love Sylvester Croom but they'll always be battling with Ole Miss for last spot in the SEC West. LSU is scary. 'nuff said. I don't think they're "great" because no one has seen them play yet but a number 2 team with an incredibly fast defense is intimidating.
Washington at Syracuse: Wash 24 - Syracuse 13
not a big syracuse fan and they haven't matched the success of when donovan mcnabb was there (which was the gator bowl, right? not too great either). Washington is alright but they can handle 'cuse.
Colorado State at Colorado: CU 35 - CSU 27 always a good game but CSU is not a big 12 team.
Marshall at Miami (Fl): UM 28 - Marsh 14 do not like miami but we'll get to see the new coach in action.
Virginia at Wyoming: UVA 23 - Wyoming 21 this is an interesting match up and honestly UVA isn't really that good, even for an ACC team.
UCLA at Stanford: UCLA 42 - Stan 24
Georgia Tech at Notre Dame: GT 24 - Notre Dame 17 I hate Notre Dame and although I'm a dawg I hate Notre Dame more.
Wake Forest at Boston College: BC 14 - Wake 3 BC has always had a decent program. last year's Wake was a fluke. though I might be proven wrong soon.
Ole Miss at Memphis: Ole Miss: 13 Memphis 10
Oklahoma State at Georgia: UGA 42 - O State 39 this is going to be a scary one for me 'cause o state is damn powerful at offense and the dawgs have the worst o-line in the world. I'm praying that there will not be an upset.
Tennessee at California: UT 51 - UC 27 California might be pretty good but they're no match for an SEC defense and with Ainge at the helm of the offense, this one will get ugly.
Florida State at Clemson: FSU 31 - Clemson 24 FSU will be good this year, even though they've sucked forever (maybe it was just 2 years but for those spoiled fans thats forever). Clemson has thunder and lightning but that's about it.

Mr. Jack: I was thinking that we can do this each week and count up our records and declare a champion at the end of the season. I can't believe college football is about to start!

Colorado State at Colorado: CU 35 - CSU 27 always a good game but CSU is not a big 12 team.
Nowadays CU hardly is, too!
I can only hope there are 62 total points scored this year. Last year it was 14-10 and it wasn't even that exciting! My wife works for the CSU Alumni Assoc., so our tickets were/are free, but I would have been pissed last year had I paid full price.

i was just guessing on the numbers, i'm not a big fan of big 12 and MAC conference so I really don't know much about either team. maybe it will be a low scoring game, but CU will probably still win.
Hope you have fun at the game!
