I'm 17 years old and a Junior in high school. My primary concern in life, (other than that school thing), is video gaming. You'll find most of my posts there, although I visit the movie boards from time to time.
My favorite video games include Starcraft, Warcraft 3, And Final Fantasies 7 and 10.
I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

Mark, thanks for bringing back this thread. I never new about it til now. Okay lets see, who am I?
My name is Josh. I'm a 15 year old sophmore at Marin Academy high School and I live in Berkeley California. Oh, and Know-it-all, the 13 year old who did the post before this one, is my wittle brudda. We grew up in upstate New York, and recently moved out here to California, only a few months ago.
Hmmm....as far as music/movies and games go: My favorite movies are The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Kill Bill's, Memento, Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Minority Report, Gladiator, Pulp Fiction and stuff like that.
My fav. Tv shows are The Simpsons, South Park, Family guy, Chappelle's Show, 24, Law and Order, and The West Wing.
As far as directors I love Spielberg, Tarantino, Kubrick, P. Jackson, and Ridley Scott.
My favorite games are Starcraft, Halo, Tony Hawk 4, Call of Duty, Diablo II, Escape from Monkey Island, and Worms: World Party.
I like to listen to a broad selection of Rock, from classic rock like The Beatles, the Doors, and the Who to Punk like the Clash, The Ramones, and the Dead Kennedys, to more Modern light Rock like REM, Coldplay and Harder rock like System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine.
My all time favorite band is The Red Hot Chilli Peppers!
My favorite books are The Lord of the Rings, The Da Vinci Code, Ender's Game, and The Catcher in the Rye.
I really enjoy studying film and filmmaking as well as photography, digital and film. I hope to be a filmmaker/photographer or combine the two and be a cinematographer!
Hmmm...what else.... I like computers and electronics stuff, rolercoasters, meditating, and random useless facts. (I do very well when playing Jeopardy).
As far as sports go I play Basketball, Tennis, Ping Pong. Im also getting pretty good at Hackey-sack, which isnt really a sport, but fun nonetheless.
Hmmm... I play the Guitar and the Piano. I have also tried and given up on playing the Drums and the Saxaphone.
Hmmm... what else.... Oh! My favorite food is sushi! My favorite sushi roll is a local roll we have here in NorCal called A's roll. (named for the Oakland A's). Its Deep fried soft shell crab and avocado rolled up and then topped with grilled eel! mmm...yummy! If that sounds disgusting to you than you need to expand your food palate.
Well, I guess thats it.

Come on, know-it-all, you can do better than that, we're REALLY on YOUR side! Oh, my 13-year-old daughter is a member on here, but now I guess I'll have to get her to come to this thread and spill her guts.

Fine fine Mark. Ok, umm... I have brown hair... Some of these things my brother probably already mentioned. I grew up in upstate NY. I like blizzard games as Warcraft 3, Starcraft and diablo. I watch a lot of movies. I like all different types of movies but I havent seen that many musicals or movies before 1950. I like pizza, italian food and mexican food. I listen to rock. I dont like that much hard rock though. I dont get around to reading that often even though I try to more. Some of my favorite books to read are Agatha Chrisie books, I like Enders game and enders shadow, and the da vinci code. Right now I am almost finished with the catcher and the rye. This is the site I visit most even though I surf the web a lot. I play piano. I play tennis, soccer and basketball. I also like to play ping pong and chess.

Props to Mark f for resurrecting the most interesting thread in the boards...(no offense, rest of the boards...)
On additional point about me. I like recording TV shows. TV is good. For example "The Wire" "Veronica Mars" and "Life as We Know It" are good ones this year. Down with reality TV (except for MTV reality that is... that's not so real, after all)

Since everyone is supplying such detailed information here, I'll offer an info-upgrade:
I'm currently teaching at Webster University, (teaching an Intro to Philosophy section) but I've taught Business Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, The Philosophy of Love and Sex, and, next term, I'm teaching an upper-level course (for seniors) at Webster on The Morality of War.
My first edited book will be out next year, with Prentice Hall. It's called The Morality of War: Classical and Contemporary Perspectives and features readings on war from the Christian fathers to the present.
I'm married, to a registered nurse, and we have two dogs (a Maltese and a greyhound) and a very evil cat.
We enjoy all sorts of foods, from the usual (Mexican and Italian) to the unusual (Nepalese and Vietnamese), although when we dine out, it's usually bar-b-q, Vietnamese, and St. Louis style pizza. I LOVE sushi, but my wife doesn't, so I don't eat it often.
We don't see many movies in the theatre, but we enjoy all types, from art-house stuff to big-budget hollywood stuff. The last one we saw, in the theatre, was Open Water, which wasn't bad. If there is one genre we both enjoy alot, it has to be horror. And I'm a huge fan of post-apocolyptic zombie movies. Mmm...brains!
I enjoy some TV, although most of it is quite annoying. We both lament the passing of both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but we pass the time by occasionally watching some crime shows (the various Law and Order and CSI's). Of the shows we really follow, I would list: The Sopranos, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, The Shield, Six Feet Under, 24, The Simpsons, and King of the Hill. Currently, my wife is OBSESSED with the new ABC show, Lost.
I don't play any games, mainly for lack of appropriate gaming systems (and a fear of losing even MORE of my free time) but I do jog daily and play pickup basketball. This summer I played in a softball league, but next year, I may play in an organized KICKBALL league! I also play tackle football on some Sundays, when my 30 year old bones can take the beating.
I'm originally from St. Paul, but I lived in Atlanta from 1991-2001. I've been in St. Louis since August of 2001.

I'm 25 years old and I am an art director at an advertising agency in, I'm sorry to say, Little Rock, AR. I am originally from Houston, TX and still claim it as home. I am a movie and jazz fanatic. I have been married for about three years now and we have one kid. Her name is Mable and she is a twenty pound Schnauzer. I went to College with Jackietheblade, Slimebalrog, and Iambuckcompton. I am really glad that we found this place so we can keep in touch better.
Movies- I like all kinds, but I have to say that my favorites are 'Jaws', 'Heat' and probably 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. I like Speilberg, David Lean, John Frankenheimer, Mel Brooks, and Robert Zemekis. My favorite actors are Jack Nicholson, Gene Wilder, and Sidney Poitier.
Music- What can I say, I'm a jazz nut. I like Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, and Miles. I am starting to collect vinyl and it is slow going right now, due to the cost, but I hope to have a library of jazz on vinyl someday. I know the sound quality is not as good as a CD, but dammit, they just sound better.
Video Games- I don't play them. I wish I had more free time to, but work takes up most of that.

It's great to see everybody introducing themselves. Thanks for moving this over here, mark. It was a great idea!
So, jakal40, when are you going to pay us a visit in the jazz forums? It's a little lonely and quiet down there.
Actually, in the rush to dump CDs on the marketplace, a lot of classic jazz recordings were transferred to the format from the LP masters. In that case, and there are more than a few, the LPs absolutely sound better.
pE, I had made the erronious assumption that you were teaching at Wash. U. Webster is such a great school. I studied saxophone with Paul DeMarinis when I was in high school. A number of my colleagues at KWMU taught at Webster including the late, great Harry James Cargas. For a brief period of time, when Webster still owned a radio frequency, I spun a jazz show there once a week during the brief stint when I was not working in public radio.
Let's see, to update a bit of my own personal history:
I am also married. As I've mentioned elsewhere, my wife is working on her Ph.D. in Theatre History. She is also a nationally competitive distance runner, so she's taking her time on the former while she devotes herself to the latter.
We're cat people. We have two.
We are both vegetarians, and St. Louis' excellent Vietnamese cuisine is something we miss in Bloomington.
We also don't get out to the movies all that often. I used to go to two or three movies a week, but these days we rarely have the dinner dishes washed before 9 p.m. and both our days start early, so there's not a lot of time. As with music, I tend to be an omnivore when it comes to film. There isn't much I don't like. The last film I saw in the theatre was Hero.
I'm pretty selective about my television viewing for the same time consideration. I watch lots and lots of sports, but outside of that I only follow The Simpsons and The West Wing.
I also haven't played games since the original Atari was state-of-the-art.

Where do I start? Well...In third grade, I cheated on my history exam...in fourth grade, I stole my Uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I played Moses in my Hebrew school play... Sorry, I had to. I LOVE the Goonies. Ok, here's the lowdown...
I'm 26 and living in Sioux Falls, SD. My wife (of 2 years) and I moved here when I got a job at an ad agency after graduating from college with a degree in Advertising. I'm now a copywriter at an awesome radio group (4 fm, 2 am) now owned by Cumulus Broadcasting. I love radio and had a radio show in college as well as a movie news/reviews show with Jakal40. And like Jakal, We also have one "child", a 9 month old Sheltie named Lucy. Now, jumping back in time a little...
I'm from Iowa and am a die-hard Hawkeye fan. After high school, I started at the University of Northern Iowa in my hometown of Cedar Falls where I was a theater/acting major. I discovered many loves while at UNI. I found David Mamet when I did a scene from Glengarry Glen Ross in my Acting II class. He is now one of my favorite directors. I also found some great music like DJ Shadow (who I am glad to hear many others hear like), Portishead and DJ Qbert. Finishing this segment of my life, I took some time off school, then got together with my wife and went back to school in Arkansas where she was, where I realized I wasn't going to be able to support a family with acting. Now...
I have a huge range of musical tastes. I love John Denver, Neil Diamond and Simon and Garfunkle because I grew up listening to it with my Dad. I also love 80's tunes like Chicago (Seventeen!), Sheriff, Thirty Eight Special and Night Ranger because my sisters listened to that. Then I discovered Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains (RIP)and Soundgarden (RIP - one of the greatest bands of modern rock). Now, my favorite music includes Radiohead, Sigur Ros (some of the best, most original music today), Coldplay, Daft Punk and Paul Van Dyk. I also really enjoy Alison Krauss, the Beatles, U2 and thanks to Jakal for introducing me to Miles (if you have never heard Miles on Super Audio CD, it will blow your mind). Now, on to movies...(this is getting way to long)
My favorite movie is It's A Wonderful Life. I think Jimmy Stewart is the greatest actor of his generation. Other movie loves are Seven, Lock, Stock, Heat, the LOTR films and movies that make me feel good like Harvey, Apple Dumpling Gang, Jerry Lewis movies and great slapstick.
I play the guitar and piano and love writing music and singing. I am a member of SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of BarberShop Quartet Singing in America) and sing in our local chapter chorus as well as a quartet.
I have very strong political views that many of you already know, but I have already said too much for now.
p.s. Hey Kraft and Know-It-All, I also loved the DaVinci Code and Ender's Game. Did you know they are both being made into movies? I can't wait.

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back. -Face
My name's Mel, I'm 22 and come from smack bang in the middle of Ireland. I (hardly) work as a civil servant with the Department of Transport, it's a sucky job, so I try not to think about it alot. Hence, when I'm in work I spend what time I can on forums. I haven't got going fully on this one yet, but I plan to eventually coz I love the diversity here. I'm in two bands, one is called SNES with whom I am the singer (we do alot of Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Steve Miller Band, Al Green and Tenacious D) and the other band is a Rage against the machine cover band, I play bass for them. I'm big into music. To be frank, when I first got into music, if it wasn't heavy kettle (metal..heh) I wouldn't give it a chance. I was all about Testament, Slayer, Megadeth, that sort of thing. Then I started smoking hash alot and ended up broadening my horizons. For that I'm thankful. The main bands and solo artists I listen to are Steve Vai, Primus, Rush, King Crimson, Tool, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Megadeth, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Steve Miller Band, Rory Gallagher, Thin lizzy, Corrosion of Conformity, Pink Floyd, Eric Johnson, The Police, Testament, The Ramones, The Clash, Fugazi, Kerbdog, Therapy?, The Residents, John 5, Dream Theater, Fantomas, White Zombie, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Deftones, The Doors, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Stone Roses, The Who, The Pixies, Bowie, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Phew. I'm even beginning to open up to Public Enemy, Ice Cube (circa The Predator) and Snoop Dogg (circa Doggystyle). Hey, I never said I was modern! Actually, my mindframe is apparently terminally stuck in the 90's.
I was brought up on Tales from the Crypt, The Hitchiker, The Outer Limits and shows of that ilk, not to mention Freddy Krueger, so my favourite film genre is horror. I own over 320 horror films alone, about another 80 that are either manga, comedy or others. My favourite horror film depends on my mood. To satisfy the gorehound in me, it's Re-Animator. To be creeped out, it's Night of the Living Dead. I have a very macabre sense of humour, but to be honest there isn't anything remotely evil about me. I'm happy inside, but I love sick shit.
My favourite song is Led Zep's 'Ten Years Gone'.
My favourite thing to smoke to is 'The Dark Side of Oz' DVD. For those of you who haven't seen it, just buy the DVD off the net, it sync's perfectly, the music's phenomenal, the film was already phenomenal, and it's pretty fuggin' creepy too.
I have a filthy mouth but I try to keep it in check most of the time. I blame society! Buh bye

Well I guess I should say something being that I am the newbie. Ok here goes...I'm gonna do it...I'm gonna start...Okay here's me. I'm am an eighteen year old male college student, I attend Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville Fl. I major in Business Adminstration and hope to transfer to the University of Florida in about a year. I mostly listen to rock music new and old such as Led Zeplin, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, System of a Down(note my name), Tool, Rob Zombie, Black Sabbath, and A perfect Circle. I have interest in all of the main categories here but I tend to play video games and watch movies more than listen to music. I only have a ps2 because, well, I am broke. Some of my favorite games are the GTA'S, SSX Tricky, Ratchet and Clakn: Going Commando, NFS Underground, and Tiger Woods 2004. I live right across from a movie theater so I watch a new movie about three times a month. My favorite movies are The Usual Suspect, Joe Dirt, Goodfellas, and Close Encounters...I work at a nursing home on the weekends as a receptionist, it is a crappy job but I usually don't do much but work on homework so it all works out. I guess that's me in a nutshell so there you go.

hello to all. I'm Andrija from Serbia. No, it's not a girl's name. Andrija=Andrew. I like various music. I also like video games. I'm 21, college student of organisational science faculty. I also learning for system administrator title. Anyway, metacritic is great.
hello, my name is joey, i'm 30 years old and i'm from the philippines.
i am a fan of movies that have a child-like wonder of films, hence my love for Sky Captain of the World and Aliens vs. Predator. I do not expect my posts to be popular but heard
for me the golden age of moviemaking was the 80's where terminator, predator, aliens and total recall was made.
in the 90's my favorite films were by Michael Bay (see I told you I won't be popular)
in this new millenia, i'm looking forward to the films of darren aronofsky and hoping robert rodriguez can pull more magic out of the hat.
in the 70's it was Star Wars
and in the 60's it was Lawrence of Arabia.
if you were to go back to the silents, I'm a fan of Melies.
my favorite critic is david edelstein, even though I don't agree with him all the time and i think aintitcool rules.
okay, i'll stop now, before i write too many unpopular opinions.
Ok, well I don't know if I am the newest member of Metacritic, but I'm sure I'm close to it..considering I signed up only 3 days ago...
And it's been a while since someone has posted in this topic! Sooooo...
Anyway, I'm 19 and I live in the most boring town in Pennsylvania..I'm currently a Sophomore @ West Chester University..and my major is Music Education! I want to teach the youngings music!
I like ALL kinds of music except for Country..sry in advanced to anyone that likes/loves country...
I'm more into movies and gaming...My favorite game is Final Fantasy 7..the only systems that I own are Play Station and the Original grey GameBoy...Unfortunatly, both of them are busted! UGH!!
I'm Single lol...and currently trying to move out of my parents house...because I am sick of living in a hell hole!
I'm currently unemployed, so if I plan of moving out, I better starting looking for a job...blah! Although I do a lot of odd jobs for friends and neighbors and somehow it pays my bills and everything else that goes along with it...O.K., thats enough of the personal finance bit! sry!
anywho, I accidently stummble upon Metacritics looking for information about, who else, Jim Carrey! I'm glad I found it though..its the best forum I've seen in a while..like its been mentioned before...no matter what opinion someone has on a topic, there isn't a huge war started because of differences...
Hope to start learning more about everyone..
P.S. I've got a pic or two in the CRAZY IDEA thread...check it out if your interested

An update: Amazon is the first place to have the details on my book. You can see the cover here:
pE, it's a nice cover, but there's too many PC-clothes. It doesn't seem like a serious cover for Plato, Aristotle, Socrates. I also notice that if you CAN'T afford to go to college, you can't afford the book!
I realize this is ancient history. 31 years ago I went to the University of California at Irvine. I had to pay a total of $210X3 ($630) for an entire years' fees, which included parking and health fees. The Regents just raised the rates so that my daughter would have to pay $6800 for the "same education". Of course, she's only 13, so I expect it will hit $10,000 before she's ready. Money really sucks...unless you're rich. (Of course, then you have the weight of the masses on you, unless, of course, you don't care for that weight.)

Sadly, it's a cheap textbook. Most of the ones you see for college courses are well over $80. Many (in the sciences) top $125, with constant revisions of texts making used copies (and resales) out of the question. I always try to find cheap options for students, including using low price paperback editions, providing readings on Electronic Reserve (that can be read or printed online), or using texts that have used copies available, but that's not always an option...
I don't have to pay it, as a fully-funded grad student, but the tutition here at Wash U, including campus living, runs well over $40,000 a year. More expensive than Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, I hear.

Congratulations, pE!
We were in Indianpolis Friday night to celebrate the publication of mother-in-law's latest book. In the time I have been married, both she and my father-in-law have published new books and they are currently collarating on their first project together.
It's an exciting end to a great deal of hard work. Again, congratulations.
