Friends of the forum, you are my source of reliable information. I'vd done three laps around the entire internet for my information and have found very little, so please answer my question:
A friend of mine is having... well, a warrant out for his arrest. Now, trust me, he intends to clear it up (not flee the nation) he just needs to get a job in Oregon. Now, to get a job, he must get an ID and also preferably a driver's license. My question is, when he pays a visit to the DMV, will they run a check for warrants and catch him? Please, I am not asking you to help in any illegal business, I am just curious of the answer.
I don't know the answer, N-Z, but based on MY experiences at various DMV's, I don't see how they would have the time to run warrant checks on every patron. It's never taken me very long to get my licenses, and I've never seen them do anything that was more than typing in my info. But that doesn't mean that they DON'T check. It just seems to me unlikely that they do, at least in MN, GA, and MO...the states whose DMV's I've used.
I've not gotten a new license post-9/11, so things may be VERY different now.

I wouldnt do it.I think there could be some kind of warning system for any kind of state computer systems.Where if you use a certain name something wil automatically pop-up??
I guess it depends if the crime was commited in the state of oregon...and how deep the warrant is on him.
I would say stick to the east side of the state and try to find a job working on a farm or something for now. Most of those guys dont require an id...and i know alot of illegal immigrants do that here...in the state of washington. They will pick apples or something like that.I certainly would not reccomend that job to anyone...but hey it may keep him out of harms way and far enough away from any kind of city, so he could save up his money.
I do know that the longer he waits the worse things willget for him!!
Good Luck

So you're friend is not from Oregon. In California, if you have outstanding traffic tickets, they won't renew your vehicle registration or driver's license, so I would assume that would stretch to bench warrants. That's different than getting arrested though.
As far as going to another state, I have no idea, but I agree with Imprezu about the time factor. The longer he waits to straighten out the bench warrant, the bigger fine/longer jail time he'll have to do JUST for the warrant. I'm guessing he failed to appear in court, but what I don't get is HOW does he know there's a warrant out for him? Just because he failed to appear? Normally you don't know until they catch you or you turn yourself in.

I don't know the specifics, but he seems completely assured that there is a warrant out for his arrest. Well, thanks for the info, I'm sure he will sort his problems out for himself.
