Pff.... god damn yankees. Congratulations to A-rod though on becoming the first Yankee player to reach 50 homers in a season since since Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle did it in 1961. At least that made the trip out to the stadium somewhat worth it. Number 50 really was a beautiful hit. It was obvious that it was gone, I didn't have to watch it. But it just glided straight out to center, like it was on a wire or something.

I'm not sure why I feel deflated, it's not like I haven't seen the Royals do this before, except play even worse. It's not deja vu, it's Groundhog Day. I guess maybe it's because I had to sit next to Yankees fans and watch them gush for two hours. blah *makes disgusted face*. Ahh, must stop pity party!

The Angeles are "beatable", case and point - the Royals are 5-2 against them this season (including a 3 game series sweep in late June. Then again, baseball is fucked up like that.

I am sorry and glad you had/got to see that pixie. I can see how it can be very frustrating. The Yankees gained a game in the East, there is still hope.

I was glad for A-Rod, I just really hope he can play this well (defensively and offensively) in the playoffs. That would really make his great play in the regular season worthwile.

Yes, congrats to A-Rod. He's not a player I particularly like, but I'm rooting for him to break Barry's record sooner rather than later.

I've got a question. A-Rod is going to be far and away the American League MVP this year. On the other side, I don't see a clear winner. I don't watch as much NL baseball as I used to, but my vote would go to David Wright of the NY Mets. His batting numbers are pretty solid: .316/.411/.544. On top of that he will probably end up eclipsing 100 runs (he's at 98 now), 30 HR (28), 100 RBIs (95), and he already has 31 stolen bases. Who are the other contenders in the NL?

I'd say Matt Holliday from the Rockies is a good bet. .333 avg, 113 RBIs, 78 extra base hits.

Although I think A-Rod will probably get the MVP in the AL, I don't think Magglio Ordonez is that far behind him. A-Rod's 52 homers make him look good, but Maggs' numbers are pretty comparable considering he's not a home run hitter.

Holliday has a chance if the Rocks make it to the playoffs. I think considering the two lineups, he is having the better season.

Oh, Boston's magic number is 13!

Any bets on the Cy Young winners?

I'm going to say Jake Peavy of the Padres for the NL and C.C. Sabathia of the Indians in the AL

It's pretty tight in the AL with CC, Escobar, Beckett and Wang all having similar seasons. I think CC is having a sllightly betteryear, but if Wang or Beckett gets #20 that is going to sway a lot of votes. CC should be hoping they both get to 20 to split the vote Cool

Peavey should win the award hands down in the NL.

It is really frustrating when the Yankees are trying to make some ground in the East and the Red Sox continue to "eek" out wins against lesser foes. Although the Yankees have a great winning streak going, they are still five games back. On top of that, they need to sweep the series this upcoming weekend to be able to make any considerable ground on Boston. I am hopeful and am really looking forward to that series at Fenway, all games look like they will be on national television.

My Cy Young pick in the NL is Peavy, by far. In the AL, I really like C.C. Sabathia. Personally, I would like to see Chien-Ming Wang win the Cy Young for multiple reasons, besides the obvious one. I think he is one of the most underrated pitchers in the league (didn't even make the all star game this year) has been very dominant and pitches well in big games.

Especially in the second half of the season. Here's an interesting bit of trivia. Members of the Yankee$ and Red $ox have won the Cy Young award 11 times and they have never finished 1-2 in the voting. This year might be a first.

Boston's Magic Number is 12 (talk about frustrating . . .)

You're 4 games up in the Wild Card. Quit whining.

I'm more frustrated, because the Tigers look like they have a legitimate shot now, but as long as the Yankees get to play teams like Baltimore, Toronto, and Tampa Bay, it isn't going to happen.

There were a couple of articles on MLB.com today speculating on the MVP in both leagues.

For the AL, they said the favorites were (just as we said): A-Rod, Magglio, and Vladimir Guererro. They also said the BoSox' Mike Lowell and Indians' Victor Martinez were possibilities.

In the NL, they had three picks we didn't consider: Prince Fielder of the Brewers, Albert Pujols, and the Phillies' Jimmy Rollins. They also said the Phillies' Chase Utley and Rockies' Matt Holliday (my pick) were good bets.

David Wright only got mentioned as a long shot with Jose Reyes, Ryan Howard, Hanley Ramirez and a few others.

I'm kinda with eric on this - the Yankees are probably going to be in the playoffs anyway, whether they win the division or not. What's to complain about if you're a Yankee fan right now? They were totally dead in the water a few months ago, and now they're back. You're gonna be watching baseball in October, and they'll be playing Boston in the divisional series either way. Most people's teams are out right now. It's gotta be truly frustrating to be a Mariner, Philly or Cards fan right now.

It's more fun to root for the underdog, so FKA likes to pretend the Yankees are one, even though their $200 million roster is packed with future hall-of-famers, and as long as they can manage to squeak out some wins against Baltimore and Tampa Bay, they're all but guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

There are two maybe three unsung heroes in Beantown this year. Mike Lowell is at the head of that class. Up until Big Papi's two-homer night yesterday, Lowell was leading the team in RBIs. That said, I'll be surprised if he finishes in the top 10 in voting.

I'm equally surprised that Wright is considered a long shot: Team's in first place, big media town, career year-- I don't get it :head scratching:

I think the theory behind that, and it probably applies to the Phillies too, is that those teams have multiple stars who are having stellar years. They end up splitting votes. Prince Fielder had crossed my mind, as he's a pretty big key to the Brewers success this year. If they hold on to the NL Central division, I'd say he's a good bet.

A personal pick for me would be Albert Pujols of the Cardinals to win the NL MVP. I also like Matt Holiday but that one is a long shot.

Pujols seems like more of a long shot to me than Holliday. Holliday leads the league in RBIs, hits, and doubles, has the second highest batting average, and is 5th in HRs.

Could you imagine King Albert's numbers if he played for the Rockies?
