Hey, do you guys want to hear a story about how I humiliated some random skinhead up in town today?

Yes, of course you do.

I was out walking in Rundle Mall (probably South Australia's biggest tourist attraction). The skinhead in question runs into me on his skateboard (although not hard enough to really knock me off balance). A few people crowd around, and he comes up with the following BS excuse: "I was going to go around him, but he moved to the side" (it's worth pointing out that I was walking directly forward the whole time). A few more people come in, and he asks, "Is there a rule or something?". One guy informs him that, Yes, there is a rule against skateboarding. Skate punk looks pissed off, but, realising he's outnumbered, just walks away ashamed.

Best part is, I didn't really need to say or do anything. Made my day.

Hey guys. Here's whats goin' on with me...I just recently learned to play chess, and now I'm addicted. Anyone else here play? I play over at www.gameknot.com if anyone wants to get a game going. Just thought I would mention it.

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back.

I'm up for that, Jackie, though I expect I'm quite rusty and hope I can give you a satisfactory game.

When are you generally available?

Don't worry about a satisfactory game Linn. I am yet a beginner and will surely go down without much of a fight. So, if you loose, It's not because I'm good...just know that.

My availability depends on how you would like to play. If we do gameknot, you play whenever you can. Whenever you make a move, the other player is notified by email that it is their turn. Or, we can do "real time" chess at yahoo at night. Let me know.

Is the term skinhead also associated with white supremacists in Australia or just anyone with a shaved head? Sorry, I never saw Romper Stomper.

I'm presently packing boxes and preparing for the big move...from St. Louis back to Atlanta. The good news: we sold our house here in TWO DAYS and made a hefty profit. We bought a big house in the 'burbs of Atlanta. I'm taking a job at my alma mater as a Visiting Lecturer while I finish writing my dissertation. I look forward to teaching philosophy full-time this year...I'll be teaching some stuff that's not on my normal teaching agenda (Ancient Greek and Medieval Philosophy, for one!) which is both exciting and a little intimidating. It'll be nice not teaching the same four courses (INtro to Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, Business Ethics, Intro to Philosophy) for a change.

If you notice I've gone missing at the end of the month, it's because of the move. But I'll be back at some point in early August.

I'll see you in Georgia pE. We are leaving tomorrow and should be set up in Dunwoody by the time you get into town. Pretty soon I'm gonna have to start calling you professor. Strange.

Cool. We'll get together once I get into town. maybe see a show or two before the semester begins. I think classes start on the 22nd. My contract calls for me to start on the 15th.

And never, EVER call me professor. For two reasons:

1. I highly doubt you'll be in any of the classes I teach, unless you slum in 3000 level courses.

2. Even if you WERE in my class, I have my students call me by my first name.

We are on the road working our way toward Georgia and had a great sight seeing opportunity today. We were driving through Oklahoma and found that we would be travelling through Okemah. This of course made me pop in the new Son Volt album (which I'm liking a lot by the way). Then we figured out that Okemah is the birthplace of Woody Guthrie. So, we got to stop and find the ruins of Woody Guthrie's home. Good times indeed.

"...the words of Woody Guthrie ringing in my head..."

That's very cool.

The only great site we'll pass through on the trek from St Louis to Atlanta next week is Metropolis, Illinois, forever immortalized by the Sufjan-Superman controversy.

I'd spend a night in Nashville were it not for the animals being in the cars with us. I really like Nashville for some reason....

Good deal.

On another note, I got pulled over by a cop today...for not wearing my seatbelt over my shoulder. I had it tucked under my arm. I didn't get a ticket, though I did pee my pants. Wink
