I've been thinking about the head phones trick. I'm going to wait until Gabrielle starts to show. Probably going to stay away from classical and jazz though

Well I have been trying to grow a beard for the last month, but to no avail. I'm 26 and my 18 year old brother has more facial hair than me. I have been wanting to grow a beard since I was about 12 but I just can't. To boot I have pitch black hair and my sparse facial hair is mostly red. It is very disappointing. Sorry just venting.

I've never been able to get past the itching phase. I went like five weeks one time to no avail.

Is it me or was today a universally shitty day? I'm not saying it was horrible, but just in general a down trodden day for a number of reasons that all just culminated. On the local news they said that today, the third Monday of January, was generally the most 'overall' depressing day of the year in the US because of the typical nationwide cold weather and compiling credit card dues from Christmas, etc.
Here it was all overcast gray and in the teens to twenty's (Fahrenheit). I was tired BEFORE I got up and have had a headache all day. I overheard at work, where I am a contract temp, that an internal permanent position was opened in my department and today was the last day to apply. No one told me about it, though they were all busy helping the other temp in our department apply. Now it appears that nearly the all the international stock markets are plummeting, meaning tomorrow the US markets will probably free fall for a while (not necessarily bad for me as I'm waiting for a low before investing heavily).
I'm not looking for sympathy or solace, it wasn't that bad of day, but I was just wondering if everyone else felt like this was a Monday they wished would end sooner than most Mondays.
EDIT: Just heard on NBC nightly news that a UK psychology professor found that this is usually the day with the most suicides.

I heard that statistic today too, Pixie. We talked about it briefly in our staff meeting this morning. It wasn't terrible for me, but it was cold and shitty outside, it was a national holiday commemorating a great man who was assassinated, and it was a Monday - three strikes right there.

I just saw this and wanted to echo what everyone else stated. There’s still ten minutes left here before this Monday ends but it was a pretty bad one. That’s kind of disheartening though because most of everyone had the day off but like Eric said, it’s a holiday celebrating someone noble who was assassinated.
The whole day just seemed kind of melancholy and dreary. I was in a bad mood for the whole day and towards the evening portion I started to feel pretty depressed and sad, though I can’t really pinpoint exactly what it was. I have some ideas though.

They did? In the ten or so years I've been out of college, I've never had a job where I had MLK day off. Even at the university where I currently work, students don't have class, but the administrative staff still has to work.

I had to work, but I get President's Day off. The university my wife works at was closed for everyone except the library and student center.

It's good to know everyone else had a horrible day on Monday. I suspected I wasn't the only one feeling lousy when I went out driving and had several people flip me off for no reason, and a ton of other people almost killed me on the road doing crazy stupid things in their cars. And then I had some dude stand by his car and stare at me the entire time it took me to fill my car with gas. I mean he was just stood there, and stared at me, for no reason. Everyone was just sort of dazed.
It's heated up a lot outside. The snow is even melting, and the roads are clearing up. I think outlooks should start to improve now. But it will take a little while to recover from the most depressing weekend of the year.
Just sing yourself a happy song and move on.

Yeah everyone I know had the day off and maybe the university I go to is just lazy (because they are) but the whole campus was shut down.
It certainly was a depressing and gloomy weekend. The Magnetic Fields' new album, Distortion sure hits the spot right now.

In Virginia, since it's a federal/state holiday, all administrative staff at public colleges and universities have the day off. However, it depends on the school whether classes are held. A number of colleges have added MLK day to their holidays in recent years, such as my alma mater, but not all. Then of course, if you work at a private college, like I do, you're just screwed and have to work like normal. There may be private colleges that close as well, I don't know, but at least none where I am.

I bought a guitar yesterday. I have a semi-hollow, so I wanted a solid body to compliment it.
I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor I was back to pondering my mortality.
