Is any one else unhappy with Microsoft? Why is Windows so vulnerable to viruses? Is it just to feed an industry of anti-virus software? Apple computers do not have a problem with viruses. I like the fact that PC's are inexpensive. But, if the operating system has to be vulnerable to viruses, why not provide free anti-virus software and support? Does any one else dislike Vista?

I bet over 90% of the viruses out there only target PCs.

I'm not into the whole Mac vs. PC argument though. I think people should use what they are comfortable with, and not try to make everyone think the same as them about it.

It has never really made sense to me why there is such a religious debate between two commercial products. It makes about as much sense to me as a debate between people that prefer Koolaid and people that prefer Tang.

...Tang of course is a Mac because you can only get it in one flavor. Wink

If you are not into debating this issue, why are you wasting a post on the topic? People debate everything, that's life. Get used to it. Does that make sense to you? Maybe you would feel more comfortable posting in a Koolaid -vs- Tang thread. Since when is sharing an opinion, an attempt to "make" everyone think the same way?

I believe Shadrach was speaking specifically of brand loyalty, which is a silly concept. Where I'm from, I've seen a lot of brand loyalty towards domestic trucks (Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet) but the truth is that American built machinery is pretty crap in comparison to many foreign models. Unless there is a particular reason to be loyal to a particular brand (how it treats employees, if it is environmentally conscious, if the products it offers are higher quality) it is pretty silly, but generally brand loyalty is a marketing tactic to differentiate almost identical products (Pepsi/Coke).

Regarding this topic, I've ran both PC and Mac and find that I prefer PC simply because I feel they are far more customizable than are Macs.

I'm too pretentious to own a Mac.

Coca-Cola is tons better than Pepsi, everyone knows that.

I've used Mozilla Thunderbird since day one. I like the ease of use and variety of options. It's nice that they provide a version for Mac or PC. I also use Mozilla Firefox, a fantastic browser.

I would go with a PC, just because they are easily compatible with nearly every product or peripheral. MACs are great for graphic design purposes, but that is about it. As for the virus issue, PCs get more viruses designed for them because they are widely the most popular, if MACs ever reach that level of popularity, they too will be infested with viruses and trojans.

Now for web browsers and email apps.? Mozilla all the way. No contest.

I've used both Macs and PCs in my professional experience, and I think the whole "Macs are more user friendly" thing is a myth. And I have yet to purchase a digital camera, scanner, printer, or mp3 player that I couldn't get to work within minutes on my PC. On the other hand I've spent hours trying to install a DVD Drive on a Mac.

Also, PCs are cheaper, easier to find support for (if you need it), and easier to replace components on.

Agreed.

Lol. I was just browsing around maddox.xmission.com and stumbled upon this which reminded me of this thread.

My philosophy has always been "download it all and decide which one is best later." Thus, I have developed a patchwork of programs that work best for me. On my PC, I use Firefox (made to look like Safari, which I find not as fast but much nicer looking) and Corel Painter IX, as well as OpenOffice.org, but on my Mac it's Camino, Seashore, and Microsoft Office 2004. I've never been fully satisfied by the preloaded software on either Mac or PC, although the bloatware is much worse on PCs. My verdict: I like them both, but I find Mac OS X so much more aesthetically pleasing, that I make Windows look like it too. It's not a question of preferring one over the other (I personally love the functionality of XP, but god is that preloaded theme ugly), it's just a question of liking one UI over the other.

I hate the concept of holier-than-thou Macheads, but having owned both, PCs just don't hold a candle (at least right now).
