I think the majority of people here are American so might not be knowledgable with such laws in the UK/Europe but it's worth a try. For a friend;
quote:
I'm in sort of a situation, I was wondering if anyone can help me out with some information.
My situation is the following. I am an American citizen (sucks, and this is exactly why) who studies in Poland. I want to work in the UK for the summer. Recently I found out that I have no right to work in the UK as an American, unless I get a work permit for a proffessional job (which I wont get cause I just want to paint houses or work in a Pizza Hut FFS). Poles on the other hand can work no problem permit-free, but my temporary residence here doesn't count. Nor is the fact that I am a student in Europe (though that's what I'm told, I still don't really believe it). Also, as an american student, I can get a "blue card" and work permit free, but I have to be a student of an american college.
As you can see, I'm stuck in a very specific (read shitty) situation. Now, it's really imortant for me to find a some sort of loophole since I already bought tickets (stupid me), plus tickets to the US cost like $1000 which I don't have so I wont be able to work there anyways.
Can anyone help me out? I would be so greatful for some information, you guys have no idea how stressed out I am about this.
Thanks in advance.
BTW, I already called the British embassy in Poland, and they weren'y helpfull at all, I found more information online than they told me.
Since nobody has responded, I thought I'd offer the experience of a friend who had the same problem. Said friend moved to the UK from the US and had a difficult time getting a work permit. His solution was to find an "under the table" job (in a bar) until he had been in residence long enough to get a legit permit. Don't know how feasible that is for your friend, Crimson, but worth a try.
