It was kinda fun to watch Hillary and Obama spar although neither really gave satisfactory answers when they went at it. I didn't see any clear winners out of the debate, but maybe you guys have other ideas. Obama's response on the immigrant driver's license issue seemed even-handed, even if I don't agree completely.

I tried to watch the debate, but it almost seems useless. They just sidestep questions most of the time. I think Obama probably did the best, but will any of his ideas/plans actually be followed through with if he wins, or will they be fundamentally altered or plain lost in the bureaucratic system?

I was completely frustrated with the 'debate' last night. It was the Hillary/Obama/Edwards show. The questions were awful (Can you seriously have a presidential debate without asking about Palestine?) so were the moderators. At one point they completely skipped Kucinich and when he tried to answer the question the next time through he was cut short. The Democratic Party is in an awful state if that is their cream of the crop. The media has decided that Hillary is going to win ("Do you like diamonds or pearls better?"), god help us.

I missed the actual debate, but according to the inane political analysis after it all of the analysts were fawning all over Hillary, being critical of Obama and Edwards, and completely ignoring all of the other Democrats. Maybe that's okay, as they are really the only three people with a shot at the nomination, but honestly, if you're going to analyze a debate, at least pretend the other people are important, and acknowledge the issues they're trying to put on the table (except for tinfoil hat theories, special exemption there).

Yeah, I found both the debate and the post-debate pundit analysis pretty maddening, too, I was curious if it was just me. Obama and Edwards had an interesting mini-debate about the illegal immigrant driver's license issue but that was about the only argument of interest. Richardson wants to raise the teacher minimum wage, I'm for that!

I really hope future debates go better and focus on more critical issues. In particular I'm looking forward to the Unity08.com debates, because they'll choose issues directly from how their users rank, and the number one issue right now is energy independence. That alone should be worth tuning in on youtube, or however it's broadcast.

So if Hillary gets in I guess it'll be diamonds vs pearls instead of the usual guns vs butter?

Yeah, Richardson was promising all kinds of stuff that a president would have no power to control.
