I was curious to see the breakdown of where everybody is from. Hopefully this is enough options. I know the US options aren't perfect but just try to pick the one that is closest to you.
Me, I'm from the west coast. I call S.F., Santa Barbara, and L.A. home at different times.

I've lived up and down the Eastern Seaboard, although mostly the middle Atlantic states. I've lived as far south as Georgia, as far northeast as Massachussetts, and as far west as Michigan. Currently straddling the border between the Northeast and the South.

I've lived here since I was an infant. I lived in Texas for a few month, and then spent a couple of years in Ukraine, but mostly it's just been Alaska and I.

Gainesville blows. Problem is, I haven't done much traveling so I don't have a whole lot to compare other than more Floridian cities. I'm not even sure if I hate Gainesville, or just people, or just people that live in Gainesville. Once I'm done with school I'm getting out of this place.

Oh man. One year when I was little my parent's car died while on vacation in Florida. They towed us to the nearest town, Gainesville. You think it blows during school? Try hanging out there when the kids are gone. Those were the two most miserable days of my life.

Oh come now, Gainesville can't be that bad. I've spent a lot of time in Florida, especially around Tampa. Then again, all of that time was a tourist at a beach resort south of Tampa (near Sarasota), so I guess living inland tantalizingly removed from the surf and sun can seem like a cruel hell by comparison.
I think the most depressing place I've ever been is Waco, TX. I only drove through it, and was briefly lost, but I think everything I saw was either rusting or decomposing in eerie abandonment.
I've traveled a fair amount for my age but only lived in the "midwest". I think you'll find that it's not really the places you'll hate, but that you're actually misanthropic.
