So I’m a huge comedy fan and I thought I’d start this thread to share some of my favorite routines with y’all. I doubt I’ll get to it every day, but I’ll try to get to it at least a few times a week. Here’s the first installment:

Listen to Marketing & Advertising by Bill Hicks : http://www.napster.com/player/tracks/12409846

(to listen to it you have to do a quick register w/ Napster, but all they need is a valid e-mail address, and you don’t have to sign up for anything). Oh, and feel free to post your favorites! If you don’t know how here’s how I did it: http://www.napster.com/napsterlinks/

I thought Chris Rock was spectacular in Never Scared.

I just saw a stand up routine by Allonzo Bodden, the black guy from Last Comic Standing, that was really funny.

Carlos Mencia is one of the least funny people to ever make it on television. I hope he gets hit in the mouth by a bus, or at least realizes he sucks.

Not that I take offense to anything he says, or that I think anyone should, but he can only get so far with dumb, stereotypical jokes and skits about race. It's so unfunny it hurts.

He picked up an audience COMPLETELY by shock value, and then it wore off in 5 minutes. I won't even start on his thing with the handicapped kid on the rollercoaster.

Now, to me, he just comes off as an annoying, immature asshole. And at my age, I'm still supposed to like that kind of humor Confused.

I don't have a link, but I've pushed this a gazillion times around here, so why not a gazillion and one? Richard Pryor Live in Concert is the funniest, most-human and truest stand-up I've ever seen.

My emotional favorite would be that Dana Carvey routine that used to air on comedy central all the time. With..how his children have 'NAKED TIIIMEE!', the bit about adopting a 100 year old man to get you ready for parenthood, the bit about framing OJ Simpson, the 'Chopping broccoli' song. I absolutely loved that standup speical.

Other ones I've really liked are Chris Rock and Robin Williams on HBO.

Carlos Mencia...his comedy style is basically to...state a racial stereotype, as a joke, then yell at the audience about how anybody who isn't laughing is just oversensitive.

But, I don't blame him, I blame comedy central. They think because South Park is politically incorrect, and South Park is funny, that political incorrectness = funniness.

Take Drawn Together. Their entire scripts are written around grossout jokes.

Carlos Mencia is like one big joke that got old, but wont go away. The whole racism/intentionally unP.C. thing was kinda funny for a little while, but like some of the earlier posts asked, how far can it possibly go? Comedy central puts Mind of Mencia in as a complement to south park, but frankly, its probably the best theyve got.
