This is the first forum I was apart of that I didn't make a big deal about? Haha, that sounds bad, but it was the first time I just posted without thinking of like...an identity. If that makes any sense? It was real Shaunda. And that's good!

Just think, if most (all?) of us can manage to flock somewhere new collectively, I'll start off on the same ground with everyone. Take that, long time members/frequent posters!

So CNET will make changes in the Metacritic Site and then make the site even less popular by killing the forums? Seems the forums would be the one thing they wouldn't dream of touching.

Yeah, it's a puzzling choice if it does indeed turn out to be true. Typically, if you're in business of running a web site that relies on advertising revenue to exist, you wouldn't want to kill any aspect of it that gets you regular visitors. Surely, it's not costing them much in terms of server space and bandwidth to keep these forums going.

Was Metacritic sold because it was failing to pay for itself?

Hate to ask the question since I've read Metacritic for years and also posted a lot, but what is another site for music that has a similar chat room to this?

Not sure why you say that. I don't have any numbers, but it seems like the forums are actually disproportionately unpopular considering how heavily trafficked the main site is. Plus, the way they're set-up now, they don't provide any advertising revenue. Still, I agree it would be a strange move. No reason to piss of your users when the bandwidth usage isn't that great.

I don't know how much traffic the main site gets. I scan the music section once or twice a week. I've only been to the movie, dvd and book sections a couple times and never to the games or tv. If they do dump the forums, I'd dump my metacritic link.

I use the main site every day. After every movie I watch, I go through the reviews. Before I rent dvd's, I'll scan through the current crop. I check music all the time. Video games too. I'd rather see the forums go than the main site if I had the choice. Of course, I'd really like to see both stay, unchanged.

I for one was visiting the regular site frequently for *years* before I even bothered to check out the forums. I suspect there are others like that, as well as people who've never even noticed that a forum is here, or if they have they don't care, but still use the main site..

I notice in the upper left-hand corner of the homepage that it says, "CNET NETWORKS ENTERTAINMENT". Has that always been there, or have they already taken over?

I thought so, I just had C-NET in my head since I read your posts & then I suddenly noticed that in the corner & became confused for a minute. Now I get it Big Grin! Thanks, mark! Smiler

I don't know. I can't say that I'm surprised that the forums would disappear. That really isn't all that much discussion on the site. Too bad, though.

Did C-NET buy the rights to the site? If so, then they did so because they think it's potentially profitable, correct? Why would they remove the one thing that keeps a lot of people coming here? I don't know about anyone else, but I come here for the forums. I get my reviews of music/movies elsewhere. If the devoted faithful stop coming here that should equal a lot less revenue from advertising.

Only 2% of visitors read the forums, let alone post—cutting them would be a pretty easy business decision.
