This is one of the sadder posts I'll ever make, but there's a good chance that MC Forums will disappear by next month.
It seems almost impossible, but SHIT HAPPENS everyday! So, that's what we all have to deal with, so I recommend that everybody here uses these forums/chatrooms/etc. as much as they can before July!

Awww, man! What's up with that?! I just found this place! Is there anything we can do to keep this from happening, like a petition or something?

Anything is possible, but the originators of the site are going bye-bye, and C-Net is taking over, so pray for something good because I wouldn't count on it!

I have been intently reading the forums here for a long time now, but have never posted. If the forums do, in fact, go bye-bye, I'm gonna wish I would have gotten involved a lot sooner. Talk about a day late and a dollar short.

I know its seems harsh but let's try and find a new forum. It won't be the same but we can still have that community feeling, you know? Or maybe we can petition... And welcome to the forums Briznow. I usually read and rarely post as well. Don't fret. Things usually work out.

Would it be possible for a third party to just move the site elsewhere, remove any reference to being affiliated with Metacritic, load it all into eve community on a new server and keep everything else intact?
From what I know it seems like a $25-40/month hosting package would offer enough storage and bandwidth for a forum like this. How much space do you reckon this forum takes up on the server? Let's see, just guessing but 30,000 posts or so, all composed of just text, wouldn't be that large at all (in addition to the space eve community/user info/etc. takes up). A couple gigs tops?
Assuming CNet isn't hell-bent on obliterating the whole existence of this forum, why would they care if someone wanted to adopt it, rename it, keep it going?

OK, more like 108,000 posts on this forum. But it's something to keep in mind; I'd bet the forum could easily pay for itself with some PayPal donations, even if only the die-hards chipped in a few bucks here and there.
It's all possible, but you have to remember that it can be awfully difficult to deal with a faceless corporation. I don't even know who to e-mail if the originators are gone.
I believe we can adopt the site if necessary, but as I said, I'm going to have to hammer at a line of communication.

damn, this really gets to me. Music is in my blood, my brain, my viscera. I wish I was a rich dude and I would buy this site, but that is a fantasy. Big corps eat the green weenie, but maybe Cnet will see the light. This place has reinstilled my zest for music and to have it go would hurt my soul.
Damn, this is really sad! I just joined the forum several days ago, then something shit happend! This is really unlucky for me!Is it just for the forum or the whole metacritic site? I hope C-net will keep everything as same as it is before or somebody save this place.

It's bad news for us to be sure. Unfortunately big corporations are bottom line thinkers. They can't make everyone happy, and the opinion of 50 or so Metacritic forum members means next to nothing to a company the size of C-net. I can't quite understand this direction though: the forums are a big part of what makes Metacritic unique. But they own it can do what they want with it. The best option, more then likely, is to move on to another place. A forum isn't irreplaceable, right?

I know nothing about C-net, but as less wrote, large corporations make money the bottom line. So a bunch of interesting, creative types like ourselves will be of no interest to a profit hungry board.
That said, if these forums do go, it's been a wonderful time I've had for the last few months with everyone here.
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

I completely agree! As you can see from my number of posts, this place took up ALL of my free time, since I'm basically strapped to a chair in my current condition. I've gone so far, that I made it one of my homepages! This was my first time in a forum & I only wish I'd found this 'site sooner! I've learned so much in my brief time here about all sorts of subjects & ideals. I've even made a couple of friends I never expected to make here! If this is truly "The End", then I'm glad I at least had this much time to get to know most of you. It's been fun !

It's not written in stone that the forums are disappearing, but I thought I'd better present the worst-case scenario because they can go basically at any time after the end of the month. As I said earlier, I'm not sure who or how to communicate with C-Net regarding these forums, and the current editors (the helpful ones I've been dealing with for three years) will be gone in two weeks and have nothing to do with the site. That is the current state of affairs. I have been told that C-Net says the forums will stay for the immediate future, but I don't really know what that means.
I would also expect to see a change in the Metacritic Proper Site, but I'll have to wait to see what that change will be.
