We don't care what you say, just say it, especially, if your team is involved with something right now. It could be American pro , World Pro or even a college team, several which are competing in the World Series right now.
My favorite is something as pathetic as the L.A. Dodgers, my favorite team for at least 45 years, and miraculously, Vin Scully has been there all 45+ years.

Baseball. The St. Louis Cardinals. My Dad raised me a baseball and Cards fan my whole life. He grew up listening to them on the radio in Wichita, Kansas. To this day, I suspect he accepted a transfer and move our family to St. Louis in 1975 just to be in the same city with his beloved Redbirds.
You'll not hear any complaints from me. I saw Lou Brock play for four-and-a-half years. Watched Whitey Herzog's entire tenure as manager including the '82 World Series (the only series I ever attended), have watched my spirits rise and fall with their every move, and hope I always will.
I just returned from two games at of Wrigley Field. There's nothing quite like a Cards/Cubs game in the friendly confines. It's one of the great rivalries in sports.

Gotta go with the Royals. Baseball is my favorite sport, and the Royals are my hometown team. No matter how horrible they are, I still have faith in them.
I reserve the right to be entirely wrong.

I don't remember, LT, but the one time I went to hal's hometown of Chicago with him, we went to Wrigley twice and it was really great. We had standing room only down the left-field line, but hal, you'll have to remind me, who were they playing?

Personally, I only watch basketball, and maybe a little hockey and football(soccer). So, especially with basketball and hockey these days, there doesn't seem to be a point in cheering for a specific team year after year. Usually there are only a handful of teams per league that are playing the sport in an entertaining way. This year I must say I was very happy to see the Lightning win, as they(along with the Canucks) were the most exciting team in hockey this year. Also, it was great to see the Pistons(one of my old-school faves)win the NBA championship with teamwork and desire! Like Larry Brown says, it's about playing the right way, and the teams that play the right way are the ones that I cheer for!

I wonder if there are any Lakers or Yankees fans here? Anyone...?

Well, S, of course I'm a Lakers fan, but that's because, like the Dodgers, I grew up with them, listening to Chick Hearn on the transistor radio. Some younger people might not understand that back in the early 60s, there was almost no live sports on TV, unless it was the playoffs, an All-Star Game, the Olympics, a MAJOR golf tournament or a GRAND SLAM tennis tournament. It wasn't until the mid-to-late 60s when things, such as NBC's Saturday Baseball, ABC's Monday Night Football, and CBS's Sunday Basketball started making headway into TV. Remember, most people only had seven TV stations !
When I was growing up, I only saw nine Dodgers regular-season games every year on TV: the nine they played against the Giants at Candlestick Park. A local station showed those games only, but at least Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett were the announcers.
Anyhow, I'm still a Lakers fan, but I don't really pay too much attention until near the very end of the regular season. It's not like it is with the Dodgers, where I pretty much have to watch or listen to everything all year.
As far as sports, in general, I've lost a lot of interest due to the fact that I think most "athletes" are overpaid, anti-social, cry-babies. I can imagine that when I was growing up, they were probably just as spoiled, but they weren't so overpaid and there wasn't so much media exposure to all their dirty laundry, criminal activity and general boorishness.

Yeah, Laker fan right here. But the original question was our "favorite" team. The Lakers aren't exactly likable at the moment, but they're better now that the Shaq/Kobe feud is over. Big babies.

Good to know there are still some Laker fans out there. Personally I haven't been able to stand them for years now. I loved the Showtime Lakers but since Magics's retirement, the loss of Chick Hearn, and the departure of the Logo(to my old Grizzlies(oh how it hurts!), they have been very difficult to cheer for. I enjoy watching Kobe play but again, I can't make myself cheer for him. Right from day one when he said he wouldn't play for anyone else before the draft, and then when Charlotte took the chance, he refused to sign with them and forced a trade to the Lakers. That tainted my opinion of him right off the bat. Shaq I could cheer for as a person, but I hate the way that he plays. So much skill that is wasted by his laziness, the man should be dominating every game. I hope that this trade can right the ship and bring back the fun Lakers style of running and gunning and exciting the fans. The possibility is there, Odom has a ton of potential and Tomjanavich is an excellent coach. I hear that that Sasha Vujacic should be able to step up right away and run the offense for them, so when they do get rid of Payton they will have someone ready to fill in at the point. If Kobe learns to pass and run an offense, they could be a deadly team in a year or two with a couple more draft picks and free agent signings. So here's hoping it gets easier to cheer for the Lakers, whether you're from Cali or elsewhere!
Sorry for going slightly off-topic from the original post.

Football is my favorite sport to watch, and I'm a big New York (football) Giants fan. Don't know how good they'll be this year, but hope springs eternal!

The Phoenix Suns are my current favorite. I have always been a big Steve Nash fan, back to his high school days in BC when I almost got to play against him. I love the way that they are playing right now, Marion has so much more freedom to roam and let the game come to him now that hey have a proper point guard. Stoudemire is an absolute beast, comparable to Shawn Kemp in his prime but with better natural physical skills. Richardson fits in perfectly with his long range game, although I would like to see him work a little harder on D. JJ and JJ are so versatile that they don't need a very large bench to succeed. I am so happy to see the return of run and gun, showtime offense to the league! I have also been enjoying watching the Sonics this year, and although the Cavs aren't necessarily a great team to watch yet, Lebron amazes me every time I see him play. He makes the game look so easy.

Although I really love the way the Suns are playing the game, slack defense and fast break offense don't win playoff games. I like "Stevie" as well, and their starting lineup is one of the best in the league, but I can't see them getting far in the playoffs.
Lebron is one of the greatest players to ever grace the game of basketball. If someone were to ask "Who is the next Michael Jordan of the league?" I would most certainly respond Lebron James, especially considering the improvement that he has made just in one year.
The Sonics are the "Florida Gators" or the NBA, they put way to much stock on their three-point game. Give them one away playoff game and watch them lose.
As for Storm_Chaser's pick of the Eagles for the "Big Game," as much as I would like to believe Philly has a chance, until someone beats the Pats in a playoff I can't go against them (I have done it twice this year and refuse to do it again)

We lost the game we needed to get into the tournament. Our crappy seeding would likely have been matched against SMU's high seeding. Also, I played with a guy who went to school with him for a year or two, and missed out on playing in a pickup game with him once. One time I missed Hakeem Olajuwan at the Kits Beach courts by about 25 minutes! I also played in the final of a streetball competition against Hubert Davis, a guy who's nominated for an Oscar this year for his documentary about his father, Harlem Globetrotter great, Mel Davis. Mel was the coach for his son's 3 on 3 team when we played them! Guess how we did! Actually, we scored more points on them then anyone else in the tournament, but still lost. Good times!
