Question:
We've all been there. A long night ahead, not a lot of cash on hand. Under such circumstances, what is your dirt cheap ($2-3) wine of choice (and feel free to name others):

Choices:
Thunderbird
Charles Shaw ("Two Buck Chuck")
Boone's Farm (name your flavor)
Night Train
Mad Dog

The answer is clearly Boone's. The tougher question is which flavor. There's my traditional first choice -- Strawberry Hill, with its lite n' fruity bouquet. Nice effervescence. Clean pink color and excellent chuggability. Though the single strawberry note does lack complexity. But you can always fall back on Wild Island -- Very smooth. Subtle, non-chalant. It tickles your tonsils. Very burpable. Citrusy. Makes me think of coconuts, palm trees, and summer.

I'm goin' with the Hill....

When I was a bad person back in college, and I felt like punishing myself, I head over to the crappy liquor store, out in the boonies, and get myself a bottle of Boone's Sangria, along with a Pepto Bismol Donut or two from Donut Man, and have at them. It's good negative reinforcement....Sort of like penance.

Over here we got things refered to as "goon bags". Basically casks of cheap as crap wine that shouldnt be used for anything but cooking for the homeless. Back in my high school days I used to buy this stuff that cost the equivalent of about US$6 for 4 litres (roughly a gallon). Id get through about half of it then use the foil bag as a pillow when I passed out on my front lawn or wherever I happened to end up. Once I woke up on a train about 6 hours from home after such a night.

I also used to drink this crap called Grunters Wipeout that is basically imitation Malibu that cost about US$4 a 750mL bottle. Its about 35% alcohol or something. That was dirty crap that left you with a level 6 hangover. Passion Pop was also a favorite drink of mine. You can get about 1L of it for around US$2.50. Thats awful, awful champagne. Its almost criminally bad. I mean it would be cruel to give it to a sober bum.

Ahh, high school days.

Now Ive got a bit more class and drink Bacardi 151 if I want to get hammered and I only drink good red wine or really good champagne.

If I had to choose I guess I would have to go with Boones farm Strawberry Hill. I remeber getting caught in high school drinking that shit and all the mothers asked why we were all drinking colors. Terrible. MD 20/20 may be the worst crap I have ever tasted but some of my best nights were drunk on Mad Dog. Have to say it is nice getting hammered for $2.99

MD all the way. Elliott Smit has a song called "Kiwi MD 20/20." That's enough for me. People complain about the taste, but who drinks any of this shit for the taste?

Well here in the lbc cisco is commonly refered to as "liquid crack", or "sherm water".

Ive drank "liquid crack" one time and ill never do it again. I was drunk beyond the limits of reality. I was throwing up for about 2-3hrs straight, then the real buzz kicked in. Not to mention the worst of the worst hangovers. All this on about 3/4 of a 750ml. And its only 18% alcohol by volume Eeker.

Note: DONT DRINK CISCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Livingston makes an extremely cheap Cabernet Sauvignon. It is six dollars for a double bottle and surprisingly good.

Does Boone's still make "Kountry Kwencher"? We always used to get that in college. It's not as tasty as "Strawberry Hill", but the alcohol content is much higher. It's great if your goal is to simply get drunk.

I'd go the aforementioned passion pop, I used to live off that stuff. Liquid gold at an affordable price Big Grin

Would you like lies with that?

I don't drink much wine, but the first time I got drunk, freshman year of high school, I had a quart of Boone's Farm. I am surprised it is even around.

I used to, back in college, like to drink Riunite Lambrusco. We'd add soda to the wine and call 'em wine coolers. Though, I don't think Riunite was rot gun like "MD 2020" or "Boone's Farm."

And when I was a kid there used to be a wide widely advertised and marketed called "Blue Nun." I have no idea if it is still around, but it was a pretty big deal back in the day.
