I drank a ton of Red Bull when I was in the UK. I was upset to come home to Canada where it was still illegal but BAM 3 months later and it's unillegal (?) and in every gas station cooler for a dollar more than every other energy drink ($3 for RB, $2 for the rest). That was like 5 months ago.________________________________________________________ "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. I get a 24 pack at Sam's Club for $31 bucks. Friggin' live on that stuff. Most other energy drinks pale in comparison, but I did try the new one made by Coke and it's actually not too bad. There is also one called Omega that's pretty tasty. As far as colas go, RC Cola is hands down the best. It's just the right combination of Coke and Pepsi...and NONE of Dr. Pepper, which is a good thing!

Red Bull tastes nasty but it's a hell of a lot better than all the other "energy drinks." And since when does taste matter in a stimulant drink? Nobody cares how beer tastes for the same reason.

Call to Apathy, thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Since when have people not cared about the flavor of beer? Whether its energy drink or not, there are other places for a quick painless source of energy. You can take pills, eat a small energy bar, etc. The massive success of Red Bull should be proof enough to show that people would rather drink a can of flavored junk then just get the energy quickly using the other methods I mentioned.
Plus, beer has each its own flavor that compliments certain meals, taste improves apon more usage.

You've obviously never had a Michelob Ultra.

Yet you know damn well it's true. If people really liked the taste of beer I think non-alcoholic beer would be a lot more popular. Taste only matters in comparison to other beers. Similarly, the taste of energy drinks only matters in comparison to others. And as I said "it's a hell of a lot better than all the other 'energy drinks.'" which you may or may not realize is a comparison. I see what point you attempted to make but I suppose reading isn't everyone's forte. And Red Bull's success attributed to its taste?! You have you be joking. Maybe people would rather buy a Red Bull because the ads are constantly shoved down their throats and because they have good advertisement writers with cute gimmicks and catchphrases. I'm not saying this is a bad thing I'm just saying this is what sells, not quality. When was the last time you saw a caffeine pill ad during a football game?

Um..hello? Non-alcoholic beer doesn't sell well because people like the taste of beer. Alcopop's taste terrible. Most American beer and commercial Canadian beer tastes horrible too. They're so damn watery now. For me, I like the taste of Rickard's Red, Sleemon's Honey Brown and if you haven't eaten before the bar, a pint of Guiness...though North American's f*ck it up every time. If you spend just 4-8 months in Ireland or Scotland, you'll learn to appreciate a pint. ________________________________________________________ "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. I personally drink beer, but I don't crave the taste of it when I'm not in a drinking mood. There are lots of other things I'd rather drink than beer, but that doesn't mean that the taste of beer doesn't matter. It does. I suppose if you're a 16 year old kid looking to get loaded, you'll drink anything, but anyone who actually likes beer will tell you, very quickly, about the kinds of beer that they like and don't like.
By the way...beer isn't a stimulant drink, Call to Apathy. Even if your argument works, I'm not sure the analogy holds.
Buck...I like Sweet Tarts. On your repeated explication of the similarity between Red Bull and Sweet Tarts, I'm gonna have to try it.

Maybe I'm just cynical but I find it shocking that people truly believe someone would rather have a good tasting non-alcoholic beer over a poor tasting alcoholic beer.
And Eric, of course it isn't a stimulant. I never said it was. The analogy simply dealt with the fact that people drink the beverage for whatever effect it may be. Doesn't matter whether it's a stimulant or depressant. People want it and I think the analogy holds just fine.

Not to personally attack you Call to Apathy (honestly) but you said that nobody cares about the taste of beer earlier, and I just have to disagree with that. The buzz, whatever you call it, is important to the beer, but there are rougher alcoholic beverages that contain more alcohol then a beer. If someone wanted the straight buzz, why not this? I think that your comment about the good tasting non-alcoholic beer vs. the poor tasting alcoholic beer is true though.
If you think about it, the average person drinking the alcohol wants the "buzz", not so much as a rum drinker, but a relaxer. Now that with the calm taste of the drink adds up to bliss. They are both important factors in the drink. Missing one or the other just doesn't work. No one wants to drink a crappy beer unless they are already drunk or want to get there at all costs.

I see what you mean and I would say that seems reasonable. I'm still in college right now so I think that kinda mars my opinion of beer and beer drinkers.

I'd like to see a non-alcoholic beer taste as good as Rickard's Red. I'd have to say with the choice between a commercial beer and an alcopop, I'd choose neither. But it's also true that if there was a non-alcoholic Rickards, I'd rather have a Dr. Pepper so C.T.A's point ring true to an extent. Nothing beats a beer after work, though. They're good to unwind with. Ah alcohol VS caffine... My main problem with booze is the idiot culture it creates...bad music, bad cologne, bad hotdogs. I can't blame you for being turned off beer while at college.

Sure, beer drinkers can piss anyone off. Breathing down your neck and what not. That's still beside the point that beer has a decent taste.

OMG, I can't stand red bull. BLUCK! that stuff is so nasty! I think I got violently sick after having a drink of that mixed with alcohol once before. So, I've stayed away from it ever since.

This "Omega Energy Drink" I once had did the same to me. It was very frightening! Maybe it mixed inside me with something I had earlier, but it made me dizzy... like I was hallucinating or something... very scary.

Or you just can't handle your booze. Hence the puking. (Red Bull also doesn't tame the depressive effect of alcohol, but, in point of fact, may actually make it worse.) Now Playing: Tom Waits, "Bad Liver and a Broken Heart"

No, I can handle my booze perfectly fine. It was just when I had the red bull mixed with made me sick. I may be petite, but I am DAMN good at holding my liquor!
