I bought the Wii for Wii Sports. Seriously. I was also excited about the VC, Browser (on my TV), etc. Wii Sports totally delivers. Since buying my Wii in Jan/Feb, I have 4 solid titles:
Wii Sports Super Paper Mario Zelda Excite Truck
And I own Wii Play, which is fun, but was mostly bought for a 2nd controller.
In addition I can play Gamecube games, a system I've never owned, but now I own 4 games for it. So I 8 great games I can play on my Wii (plus Wii Play) plus all the VC stuff (I have another 4 games from the VC).
The Wii has a lot scheduled for this year that I'm really excited about as well:
Battalion Wars 2 Super Mario Galaxy Super Smash Bros. Brawl Treasure Island Z Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Project H.A.M.M.E.R. No More Heroes NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams MySims Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Guitar Hero III Dewy's Adventure Boogie Super Mario Strikers
So yeah.. the Wii has been an excellent investment for me. BTW, I'm 31 today.

The Wii's getting Guitar Hero? And Guitar Hero 3's coming out this year? Hmm. Sounds good to me.
Oh, and Super Paper Mario - great game. Very fun. Still, you can tell that it was a GC game bumped up to Wii because they needed more exclusive titles.

Getting a few cases of beer hooking the wii up to a projector invite friends round play 4 player tennis play bowling play boxing get a tourny going
because the sports pac requires little more than motion it is quick to learn, fun in company and good to play with lots of beer. Its a sociable consul.
So far I have been to, had and heard of lots of Wii Parties I have never heard of an XBOX or PSx party!
You also have to realize wii is a new system. Right now there are a few good games out (Zelda, SSX Blur, Super Paper Mario) but this is only the first 6 months. Just like 360 it took 6-12 months for them to get a great game like gears of war. As for the wii itself its a great and fun system. It brings all types of gamers a new experience.
It also can welcome new gamers. For instance my sister who is 4, bowled a strike in wii bowling, but I doubt she could do something like that on another system with sometimes complex controls.
And about the age, I am 16 and own a wii, my brother got a wii for a wedding present, and even my parents like to play it.
first post ive had my wii a week and so far ive got wii sports zelda splinter cell cars wii play
and so far im very happy with what ive got.
before i had the wii the last console i owned was the original NES about 15-20 years ago... since then ive had pc's but i must say what turned me onto the wii was that it was interactive and different
everyone in work bought ps3's for one game, motorstorm (thats ALL they play, oh and some game called warhawk?? but they only play motorstorm
what i find hard to overcome is the 420 quid (gbp) price tag for essentially one game.
they pipe up saying its got blueray yadda yadda yadda, but they havent played a blueray film in it yet, so i dont really see the point.
i was proper put off the 360 as we have one in work and its quite noisy which is a put off if you are at home and hear the fan(s) whirring.
i must concede the graphics on the 360 and ps3 are superior to that of the wii, but did you guys ever go to an amusement arcade to play purely cos the graphics were good..? no you went cos of the gameplay.
im still getting to grips with zelda and splinter cell, currently engrossed in wii sports and keep losing to my wife in boxing!
maybe in time i might get a ps3 since historically theyve reduced the size and increased the capability of the playstation..
original > ps one ps2 > ps2 slimline ps3 > ?
plus the prices are surely to come down. (There is always ebay!)

Think about it. Its only £180 and comes with the wii sports game which demonstrates the nintendos new controller's abilities excellently!
The games available are also great, I bought Red Steel, Zelda and NFS Carbon and aswell as them having great gameplay they are really FUN to play!
I own an Xbox 360 aswell and i would definitely buy for example NFS carbon for the wii as opposed for the 360 as the motion sensored innovative wiimote is so immensely fun to play games with! The wiimote is used as a steering wheel, a gun, sword and virtually ANYTHING! There is no limit to what the Wii can do and that is why everyone buys the wiis as opposed to the 360 and PS3. btw the PS3 is a pile of shit so dont waste your money (thats a lot of money too) on one.
Also as for the part about them appealing for 5 year olds. a load of shit. i'm 14 now and still the Wii OWNS. It's for all ages which is why it is selling so many.
I almost totally agree, excluding your comment on the PS3. If after 3 years it's still $1000 AUS, and there are still no classic titles available for it, then MAYBE I will agree, but until then, I reserve hope that it will deliver, but I digress…
Back to the Wii!
Zelda TLP was awesome, was I the only person who thought that the end battle with Ganondorf, where you go sword to sword with him on Hyrule field was FRICKEN AWESOME!?
I can't wait for Super Smash Bros Brawl, and they're finally putting SONIC in it! Check it out:
I guess it comes down to the fact that there will always be people who will want to play Nintendo's exclusive titles, and at the end of the day, what can the PS3 or X-Box 360 really offer that the Wii can't, besides better graphics, and a DVD/Blueray player? I don't know about anyone else, but I buy the console specifically to play video games, nothing else.
I may be wrong, but, I'm not even sure if any of the latest consoles are capable of running DirectX10, in which case they will all be obsolete soon enough, but as I said, I maybe be wrong, since I've only been able to find bits and pieces of info on the topic from forums and such, actually if anyone knows anything about this could they let me know.

I love RPGs and I've been monitoring the situation, PS3 will have less RPGs than Wii. PS3 will mainly have FFXII and I'm not interested in that after the failures of XI, X-2 and XII. RPG fans should stay away from PS3 at least for now.
RPGs on Wii:
Super Paper Mario (platformer/RPG, available now) Fire Emblem (RPG, soon out) Dragon Quest Swords (RPG, 2008) Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers (RPG, 2008) Opoona (action/RPG, upcoming) Monster Hunter 3 (RPG, 2008) Final Fantasy CC: The Young King (RPG, WiiWare) King Story (strategy/simulation/RPG, 2008) Vanillaware game (forgot the name, makers of Odin Sphere etc.) Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk (RPG, 2008)
Virtual Console: Breath of Fire II (RPG) Paper Mario (RPG) Shining Force (tactical RPG) Neotopia (action/RPG) Neotopia II (action/RPG) Wonder Boy in Monster World (platformer/RPG) plus more, all available now and more coming.
Gamecube backward compatibility: Skies of Arcadia Legends (RPG) Tales of Symphonia (RPG) Baten Kaitos (RPG) Baten Kaitos II (RPG) Paper Mario 2 (RPG) Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (strategy/RPG)
Wii is a smash hit because it is active and unlike the PS2 and other consoles, you get off your lazy butt and move around. Unless, you jump around while you play games which is un-likely
Umm. What is this about the Wii not being live? I played SUper Mario Strikers and that game was very live/online. I'm a playstation guy myself and I think the Wii is great. The controls are a lot harder to get use to but that's the great thing about the system, something different.
I will be buying a PS3, when its price goes down. I didn't buy the psx or ps2 until it was at least 2-3 years on the market.
ANyways, coming from a seasoned gamer, the Wii is very much worth the 250$ its worth, though I do feel bad for the fools who spent 350 somewhat dollars when it first came out. It's not worth that much.
no...i think a huge problem with video gamers particularly wii owners is the notion that somehow running around with a wii remote makes the wii a system which promotes exercise. its still video gaming.

I agree, the wii is great for little children, but that's about it. I mean, do you know anyone 12 and up who can't wait for the next mario party to come out? ...
Actually, I think you're exactly opposite of the truth with your assessment here. The bulk of Nintendo fans are going to be loyalists, people who remember when the Nintendo was struggling in fierce competition with the Atari for home entertainment system market. Nintendo was among the first, and it was certainly the best. Most people of the 24+ age will have owned a Nintendo Entertainment System or Super Nintendo Entertainment System as their first console. Those were both wondrously marvelous systems, far surpassing anything of their day.
We have something known as "company loyalty." We TRUST Nintendo to provide good gaming content. Which, in the example of such games as Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Brawl, they have.
Alright so, a couple months ago i got a wii for the reason that some people have said, the sequels. And for the most part, i was right, i don't like the controller in most parts, there are a few games like wii sports that i don't mind using the controller for, but whenever i have the chance i use the gamecube controller - it's just more comfortable for me.
Now we get to the sequels, i know you think i'm just being a troll, but i really don't like these games. Zelda, Metroid, paper mario, all these games pailed in comparison to old versions. Even fire emblem, my favorite game series of all time, dissapointed me. These games might appeal to me if i didn't have other systems.
I mean, i want to play super mario galaxy, super smash bros, and fire emblem, i just don't want to play them as much as games like Oblivion, Mass effect, Assasin's creed, and other great games the wii doesn't have. I respect other peoples opinion, and the wii is still good for the ocasional family night or when i don't have any other games to play, but i just prefer the 360 more.
This is the first system that women actually want to play. I could play some Warioware with my girlfriend or waste 100 hours playing an RPG and losing her interest. That kinda makes it "really great."
There's a Wii in almost every bar in my town. I can meet up with friends for a drink and bowl, play a song on Guitar Hero, or compete in minigames in Rayman. That also makes it "so great."

I saw a Wii in action and was not impressed. It does seem like a childrens toy. I also did not like the controller. I prefer the Sony Dual Shock 2 controller.
