I recently downloaded Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King.

Welcome to a watered down, sims-esque, Final Fantasy. As the King, you must rebuild and command a kingdom within the walls of a previous kingdoms ruin.

The game format is segmented into days that last for about five minutes. At the start of each day, you must review a report of the previous days earning and accomplishments, then you must also plan out the day ahead. Through this method, it is your job to build and manage a kingdom that will flourish.

When I first started playing this game, it was really, really slow, and I was disappointed to discover that you never actually get to battle any monsters and such. Instead, you just employ Adventurers to go out and explore and conquer dungeons, which is vital to the growth of the kingdom and progression of the story line.

The game play that has been designed for running the kingdom isn’t boring, it’s actually quite well done. As the game has picked up in pace, it has becomes addictive; there is a certain level of entertainment in building and commanding a society, regardless, I’m still a little pissed off.

This game would have been brilliant as apposed to forgettable at best, if the gamer was able to actually go out and be part of the adventure and battles that contribute to the growth of the kingdom. Actually, the concept of being a King and running a kingdom, and the story and game play that comes with it in this game, is exactly the element that was missing in Crystal Chronicles on the cube, and thus ultimately caused it to be forgettable.

Seriously, how hard would it have been for Square-Enix to just incorporate a similar battle system to the one that was used in CC on the cube, and then applied it as the means to exploring dungeons? It’s not as though it was overly complicated anyway, and it would have massively increased the game play.

It’s just lazy. Look Square’s previous releases that are just jam packed with story, game play, side quests, freedom, and adventure. I feel like I’ve been lead on; it’s like the game makers have essentially gone “hmm, lets just put out a game and smack Final Fantasy on the cover, people will buy it.”

SCREW YOU Square-Enix!

*Breaks a chair, then takes a deep breath*

So... Any one else been downloading any great Wii Ware?

Yeah, I passed on this due to a gut feeling. I did get Lost Winds and wonder why I spent the money on that, it's okay - myself would give it a 7 outta 10....or a C in letter format (if you prefer letter grades!)

I'm cutting the service some slack right now, but honestly don't have faith that ultimately it will really be nothing more than a service to rob you of your money - MAN UP NINTENDO! I offer the following as something to consider:

1. ALL Wii Ware titles can be downloaded and played for free on a time restricted demo basis, even a one time shot is cool with me, and hey....even a time limit of a few hours is cool. Not too keen on throwing money away. *cough*vc*cough*

2. Come the *&$% on, fix your p!ss p@@r storage problem. Look at how LARGE the demo channel is, mario kart channel, ect...I ran outta room and deleted the stuff from the system....from here out - I'll only buy known great titles from VC (IMHO) from personal experience....no more 'taking a chance'

In the end I value my hard earned money and will not hand it over on a whim, I demand more from Nintendo. Deliver.

Agreed, I have no issue paying for new titles, but it’s a bit dodgy when you’ve probably already payed $50 - $100 for a game some time in the past 30 years. I’ve stood by Nintendo through thick and thin, and I also demand more.

At the very least, I’d like to see the cost of games come down, NES games and any other console of the same generation (or older) should be free, or you should only have to pay the bare minimum value in Wii points of what Nintendo has to pay to external developers and publishers in royalties. What are NES games, like a 100 kb or less? I pay $30.00AU for 2000 Wii points, and a NES game is 500 points, that’s $7.50AU for 100 kb or less.

SNES games are 800 Wii points, which is $12.00AU. I’ve paid less than that for SNES games second hand in their original cartridge form and with their booklet. I think that no more than $5.00AU for a SNES game in data form, and no more than $10.00AU for a 64 game in data form is reasonable.
