E3 is right around the corner, which gives me hope that companies will show off some innovative Wii games for the future, but right now the release list is looking a little slim. All Nintendo can cough up for Q3 '08 is a Wii version of Mario Baseball. The only game that looks to be of any worth is a title made by ex-members of Capcom (the guys who made Okami).

What do you guys think or what have you heard about upcoming games? You think the Wii can sustain itself over the next few years? I sincerely cannot believe that developers are not falling all over themselves to make decent games for this system, especially since it's the #1 selling "next-gen" system.

Kid Icarus for Wii will be announced at E3.

As to why developers aren't falling all over themselves to make decent games for the Wii, it's very simple. Making good games for the Wii requires innovative thinking. If there's one thing video game developers JUST DON'T DO, it's innovative thinking.

Amen to that, and I agree with you (this generation of consoles has been the worst so far), but look at the DS. That system started with a crappy lineup a la the Wii, yet now there's a ton of games out for it that are worth picking up.

The DS example gives me hope, though admittedly not much.

Every time a see yet another “Mario [insert sport] game” or anything of that nature from Nintendo’s various franchises, I rage a little more, and my faith continues to fade.

Whenever Nintendo release a new console, the general appeal is the hope or promise of new generation releases of their trademark games, so it would seem slightly hypocritical of me to judge them for milking the cow, since I do look forward to them. But they could at least actually fucking release them, instead of making shitty spin-off, watered down garbage, while making you wait 10 years between each real title release. In all fairness, I guess it’s not all bad; Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and Metroid Prime 3 were all pretty damn good games.

Nintendo needs to take its head out of its ass, and start taking more advantage of online gaming; they seem to be hell bent on sheltering all their gamers, making online interaction, as minimal as possible. The only way you can add friends is by already having their friend code; it’s like Nintendo are trying to mother everyone. Wake up, people who’re playing games on WiFi have probably been on the internet before, Nintendo.

SSBB’s WiFi’s is so horribly shit, that I’m not really interested in playing the game at all anymore. I would have thought that it was pretty obvious that a game that’s entire concept is founded upon button mashing, snot pounding action (Brawling) is perfect for online gaming. But no, apparently this isn’t important in a game like SSBB, despite the fact that once you complete all the various single player challenges of the game, all that’s left is multi-player.

They should stop releasing yet another Pokemon rehash on handhelds, and make a fully 3d MMO interpretation of the game for the Wii. Give the game an optional classic single player mode, or just make it all multiplayer online. Everyone’s trainer could be their Mii, instead of joining or creating guilds you could join or create gyms. Hell, at least I’m coming up with ideas! I guess it really doesn’t matter because every time they release another Pokemon game, everyone and their dog rushes out to cough up their money, so why bother trying?

How long has it been since an actual Donkey Kong game came out? Donkey Kong 64 came out like 10 years ago, and I remember it sucking. Make a new Donkey Kong Country.

What about Banjo Kazooi, Star Fox, F-Zero, Kirby any of the characters/games featured on SSBB? Get on top of it, Nintendo.

Well, the front on Wii this year leaves me with only Animal Crossing, I'm cool with that - although I was really wanting to see a new Zelda announced....and even when that happens I hope the story takes a turn for somnething other than the formula established in ALttP.

Jamshed - I agree with you. I hold out hope for the next Star Fox, Command on the DS is good - let's forget Assault and accept that Adventurers was a pretty freaking sweet Zelda clone by Rare! Although if it blows like Assault - I'm audi of that franchise. The online friend system is too restrictive in getting friends in your list.

There are lots of great games on the Wii and my wife and I have been playing lots together, that's great - I love it. I am finding myself longing for some new title that is a single player experience that gets me involved - I still have tons of great games to go back and play....and with the current list given of what's coming - I'm thinking that it may be time to go back and play the entire Prime series in order...to pass the time and enjoy those great games again - same for RE and Zelda.

Animal Crossing City Folk will be very welcomed though - I still play Wild World alot. It's a bit slim though, yet I know that quality titles will come....sometime.
